Lake Highlands Uber Cool Contemporary Was Visited by the Style Fairy

We all have our favorite styles. It’s well known throughout the CandysDirt team that I’m the girl who cannot say “no” to a good Tudor and that I’m pretty hooked on Midcentury Modern.

What’s lesser known, is that I’m a complete nut for sleek and contemporary. Have I found the house all the cool kids will want? You bet I have. It’s today’s Monday Morning Millionaire.

This home is located in the heart of Lake Highlands, which we all know means brilliant Richardson schools, just minutes away. This is important because cool kids have equally cool kiddos.

I mean wow, just wow. First of all, the outside of 9031 Woodhurst Dr. gives you only an inkling of what’s inside. That happening wood-and-opaque glass front door is your first hint.

Before you step inside, take a moment and brace yourself for a perfect blend of inspired remodeling, great design, and superb attention to detail. It’s like the style fairy went through the house with her wand of uber coolness, touched everything and banished anything unnecessary (like walls, of course).

Once inside, you see straight through the house. Light floods in from floor-to-ceiling doors that open into the beautifully landscaped backyard and from double skylights over the living area. The fireplace is dramatic in it’s pure simplicity. That is Porcelanosa’s Nara Basic Natural tile  creating the drama.

Then there is the impressive vaulted and beamed ceiling—just brilliant. The staircase is an innovative look for a house in this price range. Seriously, who cannot find deep abiding love for glass panels on a staircase? They are a thing of beauty and allow for an even more unimpeded flow of light. I’ve only seen these panels in multimillion-dollar New York penthouses. Granted they are not that expensive, but it does take someone with a serious design sensibility to know when and where to use them.

Restoration Homes is responsible for that skill-set and everything else you see in this gorgeous two-story, four-bedroom, three-full-bathroom-and-one-half-bath home listed by Jeffrey Lester and Katye Sloan of Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty for only $950,000. It’s a style steal.

It’s tempting to just sweep in and immediately drop jaw in the central living area, and you will, but be sure to backtrack to the dining and home office areas that flank either side of the foyer. Both are well thought out, with clean lines and a floor-to-ceiling bookcase built into a large portion of the office wall. I’m drooling over the wonderful white cowhide rug, which does not come with the house, but seriously, it’s a must have for this room so maybe you can convince them to include it.

Susan Smith, of Susan Smith Designs, is the style brain behind all the interior goodies in the house, so now you know exactly who to talk to.

Let’s talk kitchen. It’s a sea of sleek. Open to the living area, it’s all gorgeous dark custom cabinetry, Caesarstone countertops, and Kitchen Aid appliances. There’s a generous island and breakfast area with a custom banquet.

The master bedroom has an hip custom sliding barn door that conceals a “beauty bar.”

“Behind the door is a long Caesarstone countertop (Frosty Carrina), a custom-sized mirror, Fosrarini sconces (rheostat controlled so everyone can look younger), and some great custom cabinetry for hair dryer and other ‘equipment’ storage – easy useable access without the clutter in the bathroom,” Sloan said.

The Restoration Homes team has made yet another brilliant design decision in the master bathroom by running Ann Sacks tile, in a silver cream color, across the floor and up the entire wall. It’s another way to keep that sleek non-stop flow going. Cabinetry here is in a rift white oak finish and more of those gorgeous Frosty Carrina Caesarstone countertops.

“There is a beautiful tile wall and backsplash called Venus Suede Matt—really yummy,” Sloan said. “The sinks are undermount, mirrors are frameless mirrored panels, and the linen/storage cabinet is customized for maximum storage.

You may have been hearing hushed whispers about bathtubs being a thing of the past and that no one really wants them any longer. Totally wrong. What people do not want is a 1970’s tiny tub that you cannot possibly do anything in but wash the dog. What they do want is this tub. It’s all about the freestanding look and the idea of a long luxurious soak in a tub that actually accommodates a full-sized cool kid.
