This French country transitional at 4911 Heatherbrook Drive is the perfect combination of style and comfort. It’s in Hyde Park Estates, only five minutes from the Galleria and walking distance to Jesuit, yet once inside you’ll have to pinch yourself to believe you aren’t in the south of France.

Listed for $1.785 million by Vicki Foster with Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International the house is 6,228 square feet and has five bedrooms, five bathrooms and three half-bathrooms.

The house was constructed with a mix of modern materials and reclaimed wood to give it a feeling of transcending time. “Every inch of space offers clever, built-in storage wherever there is an option,” Foster said.

The reclaimed wood in the family room and study is pine and white oak, salvaged from old Texas barns. Beams in the study are from an old Mississippi bridge.

The kitchen is anchored by an oversized  island, perfect for causal family entertaining. Antique French windows were used as upper cabinets. You may be able to talk the seller out of those adorable breakfast area seats. They look to be constructed from old apple crates. Cypress wood from the Louisiana swamps was used on the ceiling and behind the breakfast table creating a stunning focal point. Function isn’t compromised by style one bit, so you’ll find Energy Star appliances including a commercial-grade range, a convection oven, gas cooktop, double ovens, and two dishwashers.

The generously proportioned first-floor master suite bedroom boasts more reclaimed wood ceilings and an abundance of light, with French doors opening onto the backyard. Wood ceilings continue into the master bathroom where more reclaimed wood was used for the vanity and doors.

Bedrooms on the second floor include some of those clever storage solutions. Don’t you just love a good concealed door? There’s also a large  game room with a view of the treetops. Three oversized antique doors conceal everything you need for fun and games. The game room, as well as the media room, have access to the upstairs kitchenette and second-floor laundry room.
