Historic Lakewood Country Club Home is The Only Home You Will Ever Need, Want, or Desire

We see a lot of homes here at Daltxrealestate.com — in fact, I sometimes think we have seen every home in North Texas and then some!

We love historic homes especially, too, but we are prissy about wanting everything brand spanking new inside. And to be honest, the two do not often mix. We see these gorgeous relics — Tudors, Colonials, Prairie-style — and then we get all excited, walk in, and the innards are just not up to the innards of a brand-new build.

But then I saw 6629 Gaston.

At first, I thought this was a new home. But no, no, no — the home was built in 1929. In 2008, the owners embarked on one of those “take it to the studs” type remodels, completely changing the interiors, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, expanding a bit, and bringing in crucial updates. Additional improvements were made in 2018, including a restored slate roof. But every charming, aesthetic and architectural element worth saving from the original home was saved and cherished. So the home has wonderful formals, as homes back then did, but also a modern, open floor plan (great for entertaining) in the more casual living areas. And yes, original glass doorknobs…YOURVECTORMADAM

The archways! The mouldings! The original hardwoods, cleaned and spruced to a deep dark gleam unlike the newer woods of today!

The center-hall floor plan is classic, with something you find in homes of this era: a little garden/book room off the living room. All four bedrooms are upstairs. Is that a problem? Shouldn’t be for any family: we raised our children in a home with four bedrooms upstairs, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. (How do you hear when a child is sick at night if mom and dad are downstairs?) And check out the original black and green tiles in one of the four bathrooms.

Speaking of the master, it has an over-sized closet like no one could have conceived in 1929, plus a sitting area. Each of the bedrooms is a historical storybook.

Ah but it gets better: Because of the rock-solid manner in which this home was built, you have storage galore in every possible nook and cranny, and great attic space.

Speaking of the solid foundation, there is even a small cellar with stone floors — now a wine room — perfect for both tasting parties and hiding out from storms.

There is a cool covered flagstone patio with gas fire pit, overlooking a large, professionally-landscaped backyard. The porch could easily be screened in. And there is a gorgeous downtown view over Lakewood Country Club, which is within walking distance, as is Lakewood Shopping center with all the restaurants, Whole Foods, and shops that make that center so wonderful.

I am truly in love with 6629 Gaston, my new little love over in Lakewood, across the street from Lakewood Country Club and hello, Lakewood Elementary for school?

I want to re-wind my life and live here.

Won’t last long: listed with Michelle Hopson and Mohammed Jaber at Compass for $1.19 million. Not a typo. And don’t forget that the good folks at Inwood Mortgage will help you get into this house as easily as 1, 2, 3 … just invite them over to see that sunset!
