Live The Palm Springs Life in a Midcentury Modern Gem

How does Palm Springs sound? Now, what if you could live that lifestyle every single day? You can, in this Midcentury Modern gem in the Hillcrest Havens area of North Dallas.

This Midcentury Modern gem sits on an oversized 115-foot by 141-foot lot.

When Mandy Ginsburg began house hunting 15 years ago, being near family was at the top of her list. She’d grown up in Preston Hollow and had a daughter at Hockaday, so North Dallas was an obvious area to search. Little did she expect that she’d stumble upon a Midcentury Modern gem, albeit with some rough edges.

“We came across this house, and I knew it had great bones because the floorplan was so incredibly open,” Mandy said. “It had been redone but not to this degree. We worked with Leon Remodeling to take it to a new level.” Among the many updates and improvements were new windows and a significant secondary living area addition to the back of the house. “We touched every wall, window, ceiling, door, you name it, and we touched them all twice,” Mandy said.

“There are two large living areas, but the showstopper is the family area. Mandy had a wooden ceiling installed to emphasize the midcentury feeling. The huge open room overlooks the pool. “I wanted that center point to be the backyard and to make sure we had that outside-inside feeling,” Mandy said.

Mandy regularly throws enormous gatherings for family and friends at her Midcentury Modern gem. It’s the perfect home for entertaining. “We host every holiday gathering, and it’s not unusual for us to have 40-60 people for dinners,” she said.

Of course, one of the central gathering points in any home is always the kitchen. When Mandy was a U.C Berkeley student, she walked into the Heath tile studio in Sausalito one day. “I fell in love with their work and at that moment determined one day I’d have Heath tile in my kitchen.” And indeed, her wish came true. That lovely blue tile above the cabinets is from Heath Ceramics. It’s made in America and produced sustainably. The kitchen is worthy of any professional chef with a large island, a breakfast bar, and stainless steel appliances. It overlooks that Palm Springs spectacular pool and backyard.

An air-conditioned gym is attached to the two-car garage.

This 1955 Midcentury Modern gem has been an absolute labor of love for Mandy, and it’s so beautifully thought-out. There’s even a murphy bed tucked into the wall of the dreamy blue media room. There are 3,781-square feet, four bedrooms, and four bathrooms, and the home is half a block from the Northaven Trail.

“This home is all about warmth, community, and family,” Mandy said. “The whole orientation of the house was created so you could sit down anywhere and have a conversation. The back area is so serene you really do feel like you are in Palm Springs! It’s so architecturally unique. We put our heart and soul into this home.”
