Greenway Parks is one of the hottest neighborhoods in Dallas. It’s a favorite here at Daltxrealestate.com and this particular updated midcentury modern, at 5539 Montrose Drive, is one of the hottest properties in town right now. That’s why we chose it as our Inwood Home of the Week!

We are all weary of teardowns and boring boxes, so to find this beauty on the market again was an absolute delight. If you are new to Dallas, Greenway Parks is a little slice of heaven just off Mockingbird Lane. It’s filled with about 300 homes, and most of them are architecturally significant. It’s never easy to find a house here, and that’s another reason we are excited to see this updated midcentury modern available again! You see, this is a tight neighborhood and sales more often than not happen via word of mouth.

This updated midcentury modern was built in 1949 as one of the first homes in the neighborhood. It was extensively remodeled in 2008 by Gilbert Rebillet, who some of you may remember from his long tenure with de Boulle Diamond and Jewelry.

“Gilbert was a charming, well-loved Parisian who had a great eye for design,” Allie Beth Allman listing agent Maribeth Peters said. Rebillet started his career in Paris at Pierre Cardin in the 1960s, worked with Neiman’s and Escada, and in 2000, helped Dennis Boulle open the first location of the de Boulle store on Preston Road. Talk about someone ideally suited to remodel a home with style and class!

This stunning 6,491-square-foot updated midcentury modern has four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and two powder baths. The iconic original two-story, 15-by-15, cantilevered window is something we’ve never seen before and it takes your breath away.

VECTOR25539-montrose-dr-dallas-tx-MLS-1This updated midcentury modern is so much more than meets the eye. There are original architectural details like the impressive staircase and the wood panels installed between the dining and entry. They rotate, allowing just the right amount of light to filter through. A central fireplace, covered in Russian marble separates the dining and living areas.

The home has also benefited from the keen eye of renowned interior designer Neal Stewart. He’s responsible for wrapping the wall of the family room with an über-cool wood veneer wallpaper to make it resemble a floating cube. Check out our previous post for more photos of that cool cube!

“The seller further transformed the house by recently refinishing the beautiful wood floors, installing new landscaping to frame the front facade, and painting the interior walls and custom Bentwood kitchen cabinets a crisp white. The incredible architecture really pops now with the clean-lined white palette,” Peters said.

“Every room has an amazing, private view,” Peters said. “With five sets of French doors across the back of the home, you do not see another house, only the gorgeous trees, the lush greenbelt, and the inviting pool.”

5539-montrose-dr-dallas-tx-MLS-9-1024x768As with the vast majority of homes in Greenway Parks, and in any established neighborhood, the master is upstairs. However, the layout of this home provides a unique opportunity for anyone that may want a downstairs master.

“This house has a rare, flexible floor plan that could easily be reconfigured for an amazing first-floor master suite with a 300-square-foot walk-in closet plus stunning pool and greenbelt views,” Peters said.5539-montrose-dr-dallas-tx-MLS-9-1024x768
