Eagle Mountain Aerie

Lakeside Living rarely rises to this level of sophistication. Perched on an over two-acre peninsula on Eagle Mountain Lake, with 750 feet of lakefront, this modern lacustrine lodge sports modern features that recall architectural titans like Mies Van Der Rohe.

The stark exterior of the house at 7145 Hickey Road masks the sleek low-key luxury within, though the sight lines from the all-glass front door give a sneak peek.

Enter to experience windows walls on three sides, which give the illusion of a pavilion that almost appears to float on the lake. The windows capture the feeling of openness, an illusion enhanced by the bright white plank ceilings. Floors are of extra-wide white oak slab.

The bulk of the 2,300 square feet that comprise the residence is devoted to an uninterrupted open multipurpose living/dining/kitchen space. Again, lake views are prioritized as the principal interior feature.

The kitchen is delineated by a white, marble-topped island. Backsplash walls are a delicious aquamarine extra-long subway tile — an aquatic reference. Appliances are high-end Miele and include four refrigerator drawers. The cooktop is induction, which is fitting because I’ve never seen a gas range in the Eagle Mountain Lake area.

This is not an everybody house. There is only one bedroom and one and one-half baths. This is the potential domicile of empty nesters, a bachelor in search of simplicity and luxury, or a second shelter for an out-of-towner. The one full bath is attached to the bedroom and features biscuit-colored marble and white tile.

In many ways, the house recalls the Roman concept of the villa suburbana — a pleasure house for daytime enjoyment, often with no bedrooms.

Then there’s that fantastic peninsula view.

The property includes a dock with jet ski and boat lifts. The listing states that the 1,200 square feet of attic space has been prepared for finish out. There is a 1,200-square-foot foundation with plumbing and electric stubbed in for future construction of a guest house and, hey, the owner will throw in the Airstream (glimpsed from the kitchen window), boat, and jet-ski.

John Zimmerman of the John Zimmerman Group has priced 7145 Hickey Road at $2.75 million.
