December is typically a slow month for the real estate industry. It’s a time when agents focus more energy on maintaining contact with potential clients and leads and finishing up those long-overdue continuing education credits. So when Jacquelyn Kohlschmidt was asked to list this Carter Ranch home this time of year, the seller didn’t expect to see any movement any time soon.
However, thanks to a share from the viral real estate site Zillow Gone Wild, Kohlschmidt’s listing is getting a flurry of offers—and some clutched pearls, too.
“It has been very interesting,” Kohlschmidt said, adding that she feels like it’s just like any other listing.
Plenty of Space For Five Christmas Trees … And a St. Andrew’s Cross
The listing, which went live on Dec. 5 for $604,000, features five bedrooms, three-and-a-half baths, a bonus room on the upstairs landing, and what the listing agent a “private master suite.”
There’s a reason why the primary suite, which is located on the first floor and away from the remaining bedrooms upstairs, is “private.”
The seller, Alexandra Bottem of Alaska Unicorn Catering and Boutique, spoke exclusively to daltxrealestate.com about the response her home has received on social media.
“I got a text from my neighbor last night,” Bottem said. “She said, ‘you’re famous.'”
It’s not the first time that a home with a room fit to be tied has scandalized Zillow. We wrote about a home with a veritable sex dungeon back in 2019. The only difference is that this listing is in the rather conservative Collin County suburb of Celina. The home, which has been shared on just about every social media platform, has garnered a whole gamut of responses.
“It’s been called the ‘sex dungeon’,” Bottem said. “We’ve had a lot of bashing, unfortunately.”
While several commenters have asked why the home hasn’t been de-personalized before listing, the sellers didn’t anticipate so much interest so quickly. However, there have been a lot of solid inquiries on the home, despite the criticism.
“Why not use it?” Bottem said. “And I was kind of butthurt on the first few negative comments, but now it’s kind of a joke to us. It’s my life, and it’s also my bedroom.”
More Than Just a ‘Sex Dungeon’
Besides ceiling joists that are sturdy enough to support plenty of weight, the home also has a solar array on the roof. “It’s cut our electric bills by about three-quarters,” she said.
As for getting hate on their spicy bedroom, the seller has something to say about that.
“It makes me sad that some people may look at this and think it’s weird or wrong,” Bottem said. “It’s not weird; it’s different, and that’s totally OK.”
