This Adorable Elmwood Bungalow Has a Forest of Fruit Trees Out Back

This week, we’re back in Elmwood to talk about this very cute, quaint little house on Melbourne.

Keller Williams’ Cindy Chan got together with the owners (obviously) and they created a very detailed list of why this house is, as they call it, a “gardner’s dream.”

The backyard is big and it’s filled with a little bit of everything. The list is so impressive, I’m going to do just that. LIST IT OUT.

We’re talking David Austin roses, canna lilies, loads of elephant ears, Texas sage, star jasmine, milkweed, Texas lilac and lavender, all to bring the butterflies and hummingbirds.

As far as trees, there’s a Japanese maple, but you can make your own fruit salad with the rest: one banana tree, three peach trees, three pear trees, three apple trees, three fig trees, and one cherry.

Chan said there’s a whole Oak Cliff community of master gardeners, beekeepers, and chicken coopers. There’s even a community garden. She said this is such a close-knit community and Elmwood is such a gem — there’s one resident that’s been there for more than 50 years and can tell you everything you need to know and one neighbor that even maintains most of the lawns along this street.

The neighborhood association is voluntary and they’re very active with events all the time.

All that, plus it’s walking distance to a recently relocated dog park (Elmwoof!), playground park, and basketball court. There’s a coffee shop going in nearby and the Bishop Arts District is right up the road. Plus Oak Cliff Brewery hosts an annual Oktoberfest, so you should have something to do while you put off unpacking.

Inside the house, which is really stunning, too, there’s been a complete remodel and the finish out is fantastic.

The original hardwoods remain and Chan said they really took the time to keep the architectural integrity of this 1940s bungalow. They opened up the rooms and created an effortless flow, but all the charm remains. They even added a little extra charm now with that gorgeous fireplace. Ane the glass shower in the primary bathroom was so recently replaced, there’s not even a picture of it. It’s thoughtful, it’s adorable, and it’s available!

Chan has the 1,611-square-foot home at 1622 Melbourne Avenue listed for $360,000.
