The Wynnewood North neighborhood in Oak Cliff is a gem with so much to offer buyers, including convenient access to downtown Dallas.

With around 350 houses, the community is north of the Wynnewood Village Shopping Center and used to be farmland until 1913 ,when all 820 acres were purchased for future development.

Today, it is a thriving, family-friendly area with lot of trees, hills, and a scenic look. This week’s Splurge vs Steal looks at two houses in Wynnewood North. Which one is your favorite?

Located near West Claredon Drive and South Vernon Avenue, the house at 531 Monssen Dr. is a renovated midcentury with a contemporary aesthetic and swimming pool. It has four bedrooms, three bathrooms, two living areas, two dining areas, and 2,864 square feet on two stories, built in 1951 and sitting on 0.31 acres.

This property is a corner lot with a private side drive and electric gate access leading to the backyard and a two-car attached garage. Inside, you’ll find large windows that shine light on the gleaming hardwoods, which run throughout the house. A marble floor-to-ceiling surround makes the fireplace an anchor for the front living area and the floorplan is open in the common areas. In the kitchen, there are quartz countertops, custom Shaker-style cabinetry, an island, lots of storage, and stainless steel appliances, including a gas range. Love the master bedroom’s ensuite bathroom, with it’s modern soaker tub, walk-in shower, dual sinks, and white cabinets. Upstairs, there is a flex space that would be great for a game room. In back, find an outdoor kitchen, covered patio, pergola, deck, multiple seating areas, swimming pool, privacy fence, and landscaping.

This home was listed Sept. 7 by Crystal Gonzalez with Compass Real Estate for $599,900.

Half a mile away, find our steal at 762 S. Manus Dr., a distinctive midcentury modern ranch on a 0.42-acre lot adjacent to a creek. This home has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, two living areas, and 2,147 square feet on one story, built in 1954, sitting on 0.43 acres near West Illinois Avenue and South Vernon Avenue.

Extensive updates to this property include hardwood and stone floors, new water heater, remodeled bathrooms, and more. An updated kitchen has custom cabinets, stainless steel appliances, tile flooring, and backsplash, as well as a granite pass-through counter to the living room. The family room has a wall of windows overlooking the back, and also has a Roman brick accent wall and custom built-ins. All three bedrooms have windows looking out to the backyard, where there is board-on-board privacy fencing, a new wood deck, tons of mature trees, and lots of grassy green space.

This home was listed Sept. 10 by Kathy Hewitt and Steve Habgood of Dave Perry-Miller InTown for $363,000.
