Pete Bulban Bought and Restored the Home of His Dreams in Walnut Hill

Modern-Mile-1

Pete Bulban grew up in Walnut Hill, and the neighborhood stuck with him no matter where he went. In fact, it was a certain house, 10551 Somerton, that was always his favorite. It’s a midcentury home that occupies a stunning creek lot, and when Bulban had the opportunity, he snatched it up in a heartbeat.

From there, Bulban and his wife, Jenny, brought in famed modern architect Max Levy to breathe new life into the home. The results are outstanding, but don’t take my word for it. You can tour the Bulban’s home along with five other gorgeous modern properties in Walnut Hill during the inaugural Modern Mile Home Tour this weekend.

The home tour, which focuses on the one-square-mile cluster of midcentury moderns and updated traditionals in Walnut Hill, will benefit Walnut Hill Elementary School’s outdoor classroom. You can purchase tickets to the tour in advance, or make a donation if you can’t attend.

We got a chance to chat with Bulban, who is thrilled to open his home to tour goers for a good cause. Jump to read more and see photos of his beautifully restored midcentury gem.

daltxrealestate.com: What room or design element of your home will stand out to Modern Mile Home Tour goers?

Pete Bulban: How the house flows with the creek.

CD: We heard you hired architect Max Levy to expand your home. Is there any feature or finish that Levy brought in that is noteworthy?

Bulban: Max brought Max (which is in itself incredible). Even after 10-plus years I find myself seeing a new perfect thing Max created. Very understated and timeless.

CD: Your home has some truly unique architecture that hearkens to its midcentury heritage. Plus you’ve got that gorgeous creek running down the back of your lot. But if you had to choose one spot on your property to spend all day, where would it be?

Bulban: Back deck for sure.

CD: What are you doing to prepare for the inaugural Modern Mile Home Tour?

Bulban: Nothing. My wife is doing it all! Seriously we are repainting inside and out and doing a good old spring cleaning (in the fall)!

CD: Pete, we heard that you actually grew up in this neighborhood. What is it about Walnut Hill that drew you back?

Bulban: The house I wanted since I was a little boy and fortunate enough to buy from the original owners. I love the lot sizes and trees too. Fun and regular people for neighbors. Heck it’s just home to me!
