Seems like a nice, new gas fireplace … Oops! No flue.

Since we’re all coming down from what we hope was a happy and safe Fourth of July celebration for daltxrealestate.com readers near and far, we thought we’d take a break from our usual very serious, educational content, and treat you to some of our more interesting and unusual home inspection finds this week.

Checks notes. We do try to be educational, but at any rate, this one is just for fun.

Now there are “unusual home inspection finds” that require some investigating, and then there are the ones that really stand out and make you chuckle. And these are the second kind.

Thar She Blows!

Here’s a common problem with a less common result. This is just a missing sprinkler head, but that’s a whole lot of pressure coming out of that one head. In the summer in particular, you should make sure all your sprinkler heads are intact and functioning so you’re not wasting water. It seems like this one would have been fairly noticeable, but we’re not judging.

Do You Get The Feeling This Phone Is Lying?

Not a home inspection issue, just an interesting antique phone…that seems to be watching you.

Couldn’t Find A Deadbolt?

They make exterior doors with two holes (sometimes three). One is for the doorknob, and one is for the deadbolt. This right here is just silly (flip house). Also, Inspector Alex has very large hands.

Ancient Pier or DIY Foundation Repair?

At first glance, you might think, “Wow, that pier is really bent, it must have been there a long time!”

It may or may not have been there a long time, as this is under a 1947 house. But that’s not an actual pier. You can see what the real ones look like in the background. More likely, there were signs of foundation movement (like the floor was sagging), and the homeowner crawled under there with a piece of firewood to prop it up where the pier had fallen away. And then had a beer to celebrate.

We hope you’ve enjoyed these unusual home inspection finds from the wilds of the North Texas real estate field. If you find something strange in your home, send us a pic, or schedule a seasonal home inspection, so you can do something about it.
