Kiestwood Midcentury House Sits Pretty on over an Acre in Oak Cliff

In the $300K range, Dallas houses rarely come with more than a quarter of an acre of land, and often less than that. So imagine our delight when we came across an Oak Cliff midcentury modern home sitting on 1.27 acres for only $310,000.

Located at 3421 S. Ravinia Dr., our Thursday Three Hundred is in the boundaries of the Kiestwood Historical Homeowners Association, near West Kiest Boulevard and South Westmoreland Road. The house feels secluded, surrounded by mature trees, yet it’s only 10 mile from downtown.

This home has two bedrooms, one bathroom, and 1,412 square feet on one story, built in 1954. There is an open house this Sunday, Sept. 2, from 2-4 p.m. Want a sneak peek?

The area has a rich history, as told by the Kiestwood Historical Homeowners Association.

The Kiestwood area was built between 1950 and 1965. Set among rolling hills and wooded lots, new upscale homes were constructed to meet the needs of post-war families with good jobs and for the up-and-coming managers and executives who worked at nearby defense plants here in Oak Cliff, as well as in Grand Prairie and Fort Worth. The structures were a mix of builder houses (principally Fox and Jacobs) and custom built contemporaries.

Architectural details like wrought iron and iron lace trimmed porches, ceramic tiled baths, formal living areas, dens with knotty pine paneling and fireplaces, and large open yards are typical here. Some of the first Dallas area homes that included master bedrooms with walk-in closets, vanities, and dressing room built-ins were built in areas like Kiestwood. These features set this area’s homes apart from most of the other upper-middle class neighborhoods.

The home has updates to the kitchen, bathroom, flooring, lighting, paint, and has a floating, two-sided fireplace, and large windows overlooking the backyard. The flow feels natural and the rooms are airy and bright.

The galley kitchen is updated with granite countertops, white cabinets, a travertine backsplash, and space for a full-size washer-dryer.

Each bedroom has two full-size closets and views of trees, a nice feature.

The yard looks like summer got the best of it and could use some attention and love. But the potential is there and it offers a large wood deck, stone path, multiple seating areas, and a storage shed.

This home was listed Aug. 23 by DeCarla Anderson with Dave Perry-Miller InTown for $310,000.
