Carved Into The Side of a Hill, This Modern Rustic Is Your New Postcard Place

Did you guys know there’s a magic town in Texas called Gordon? There in Gordon sits an amazing, if not seemingly improbable house with views you won’t believe.

Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s Int’l Realty’s Laura Crowl tells us Gordon is located just on the other side of Weatherford. It’s at the base of the Palo Pinto Mountains, about 110 miles from Abilene. Stephenville’s close and so is Possum Kingdom Lake.

On the edge of Gordon, there’s a community called 7R Ranch and it’s freaking spectacular. The smallest lot in the community is one acre and they go up from there. This house sits on just under four acres and it comes with plans for a secondary 4,000-square foot house. I mean, hello, there’s room.

Who lives in 7R Ranch? Aside from people that have it all figured out? Well, Crowl said 7R Ranch is a mix of primary and secondary homes. Within the community, there’s a clubhouse, private pool, and horse stable. There’s also something called Sundance Club that’s a separate membership. Anyone in the city can be a member of Sundance Club and there’s Blue Stem Grill, Aoudaddies Pub, Sundance Resort, Eagles Nest Trailhead, nature parks, and more.

But I can’t get over how killer this place is. The windows, the concrete, the deep wood grains – it all blends seamlessly with the outdoors.

The soaring ceilings are all lined with wood planks, the fireplace is a centerpiece but good luck, FIRE, competing with those views. Stained glass chandeliers, wood beams, and a window seat carved under a bay window with extra storage. This house is giving modern cabin. And yeah, I sure do hate myself a little bit for saying “giving.”

The pebbled glass insets in the kitchen cabinets are so great. It’s a little pop of openness but without the stress of actual see-through. (Like you don’t have to live like a Target aisle and “face” all your coffee cups. Hooray for three-quarter turns!!)

Even the built-in desk and cabinets at the foot of the stairs are painted in…? You guessed it, the Earthiest orange. Speaking of stairs, there’s a little dog fort under the stairs and if you’re up for a game of Where’s Canine Waldo, see if you can spot him. He makes an appearance in the pictures. See him?

I’m now realizing there are just too many way cool things about this house – the window over the bathroom vanity, the rock wall outside one of the bedrooms, and all the details.

I mean the finish-out is flawless, but this house is all about the outdoors. So, I’ll leave you with this shot. Feel free to make it your screensaver.
