If you’ve ever wanted to shout, “I am out of here!” with a purpose and dramatically slam the door on city life, then drive away in a car hauling a Uhaul while literally headed for greener pastures, boy oh boy is today your day.

Also, super detailed daydream, but glad I can accommodate.

Here’s where we’re headed – Gilmer, Texas.

Oh, you haven’t heard of it? Well, you’re missing out. It’s in East Texas, 20 miles north of Longview and 40 miles east of Tyler. There’s a lake, a municipal airport, and perhaps the crowning jewel of them all, an annual Yamboree.

That’s right, a Yamboree. It’s a four-day county fair celebrating “the sweet potato, a former cash crop.” It’s been held every year since 1935 except for two terrible times – once during World War II and most recently when the pandemic started. Way to freaking go, COVID. You rivaled a world war for ruining things.

What all will you find at this most elaborate festival? A carnival, TWO parades, a livestock show, a barn dance, and a dang Queen’s Coronation Pageant. It’s a big deal and draws “thousands of tourists to the city each year.”

Now, if you want a front-row seat at Yamboree 2022, you might need a place to stay or even live. This brings us to today’s feature — this luxurious two-bedroom, two-and-a-half bathroom barndominium. It’s set on over an acre and has a workshop with an office, half-bath, and convenient overhead doors.

Inside, it is pretty luxe and it’s pretty new — only three years old. Built in 2019, there’s a weathered tin ceiling that sets that a rustic tone then BAM, check out that fresh wood accent in the living room that butts right up against it. It’s a contrast, gang, and aren’t we learning that’s what it’s all about?

You’ll find Shaker-style cabinets and granite-look countertops in the open kitchen with a mega pantry. A nice little primary suite with an open shower featuring real tile, not one of those drop-in hunks of junk. The second bedroom and bathroom are a solid size, too.

At the list price of $350,000, which in today’s market feels like a freaking steal, this could be your Honeycomb Hideout on the weekends when you’ve had it up to here with city folk.
