There’s something special about getting to talk to the homeowner when they’re selling their home. They can tell you why they loved it, picked it, moved in, and made it their own. They can tell you the history and why that history is so personal. They can tell you how much they love the neighborhood and why that makes it that much harder to leave.

And maybe not every homeowner is that articulate, but the one at 6262 Swiss Avenue, Unit I certainly is. He said the building was modeled after a 1900 Brownstone in Washington, DC. Not only is that the reason the building is called 1900, but it’s also one of the reasons he loved it.

He went to school on the East Coast and even after graduating, he still travelled there frequently for work.

The fireplace is a detail pulled directly from DC, as is the subtle arch on the bedroom windows. The hardwoods downstairs are original, and they’re nailed in. A key detail for the detail obsessed.

The walls of windows are more reason to love 6262 Swiss. They fill the home with light that make it feel open and bright. It’s also a tri-level that offers a level of privacy you don’t find in every home. These days the current owner doesn’t live alone and even with two professionals working from home, you never hear a peep from the second to the third floor.

Even pre-pandemic, the owner worked from home. He always has and he says this location can’t be beat – everything he needs are a few steps away.

When you don’t go into an office, he said it’s imperative to have everything nearby. Need lunch? Head out your front door for Whole Foods. Date night? Head over to Mot Hai Ba or The Heights. Mockingbird is a five-minute drive, Deep Ellum is three miles by trail and, he said, an Uber ride to the airport is under $30. In fact, an Uber ride pretty much anywhere is under $30.

If you have pets, you have an amazing place to walk – Swiss Avenue. The current owner loves walking down Swiss, especially during the summer nights when the fireflies are out. He said, in fact, everyone’s out and they always wave from their grand porches.

It’s the neighborhood he’ll miss the most and all the incredible businesses that call it home. He said he still gets his oil changed at Belmont Garage. He drops his car off and walks home. It’s urban living that’s a little less concrete and a little more tree-lined.
