Green Shag Carpeting In This MCM Makes Me Thankful This Thanksgiving

Buckle up, folks. The holidays are upon us. Halloween was the rehearsal and the real deal is tomorrow, Thanksgiving. Anyone can be thankful for family, friends, and yada, yada, yada. Me, I am thankful for the house featured in this week’s column.

If this house were a person, she would be a queen. Let me put it another way. This house belongs on the high altar of praise and worship of Midcentury Modern homes.

Now what makes this house different from so many others is not just the wall-to-wall green shag carpeting but the fact that all the accents from the draperies to the wallpaper match the shade of said green shag carpeting.

This Midcentury Modern masterpiece is located at 7731 Hollyridge Road, Jacksonville, Florida. It has five bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms and is just over 4,000 square feet in size. Unbelievably the owners have reduced the price by $26,000 to $899,000.

What, you thought I was joking about the wallpaper matching the shag? Come on, now. You know better.

You gotta love the formal living room. And no, they did not lay extra carpeting outside. The grass matches the shag. All I have to say is “Bravo!”

Ah, the formal dining room. If you close your eyes you can just picture Mom serving up that Thanksgiving turkey under the chandelier. Dollars to donuts, if you lay down on the shag you can probably still smell said turkey. Drunk Uncle Phil will join you soon enough.

The bar is sensational. You can still feel the essence of drunk Uncle Phil saddling up to the bar to get “topped off” yet again before Thanksgiving dinner.

And this is where the magic happens. How could anything made in this kitchen not be magical and delicious?

Yeah baby, shake that bird. What is Julia doing here? I digress.

I did mention that the carpeting was wall-to-wall, right? I just wanted to remind you of that because the wallpaper is so — what is the word I am looking for? — reflective, that you could go forever without noticing the shag carpeting in the bathrooms.

All I can see is that all the bright, shiny wallpaper will do a number on drunk Uncle Phil. His world is going to be spinning.

So there you go my peoples. A Midcentury Modern masterpiece, and with that please know I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving! From my house to yours may you spend the day with those you enjoy and that they bring you an appropriate amount of alcohol to tolerate the ones you don’t. And for the love of God, eat the extra piece of pie.
