When I first moved to Texas I started out in Stephenville. It is a sweet little town with friendly people and a statue of a cow named Mootilda that sits on a pedestal in the town square. On Mootilda’s side is a ticker that counts how much dairy revenue has been raised by Mootilda and her girls. I love cows so much. I digress.
When I would interview the good people of Stephenville and they had trouble explaining something odd or out of the ordinary, a phrase they would use was, “Well, at least we’re not Oklahoma.” Now not being a native Texan, I really did not know what that meant besides slamming Oklahoma. So one day I asked, being a reporter and all, and the response I got was, “You’ll see,” followed by laughter. At this point, I would squint my eyes at them and move on.
Well, here I am, more than 30 years since my stint in Stephenville and I finally get the expression and the laughter. I present to you the home featured in this week’s column.
Yes sir, this house looks exactly as you are imagining it on the inside.
Along with having two front doors, this house has three bedrooms, three bathrooms, and has 2,251 square feet. It is located at 11800 Blackjack Rd, Oklahoma City and it is most definitely in Oklahoma. Mootilda would love it here because the home sits on 2 acres. There is lots of room for the cows to roam around.
Prancing cows, I love them so.
Okay, so you remember the inordinate amount of brown wood paneling that existed in the ‘70s. I am here to tell you, I found it.
We had the same color paneling in our basement.
Now this kitchen has some ‘splaining to do.
For a 2,551-square-foot house, that is a really small kitchen and it seems as though they used some of the wood paneling for the veneer and then painted it white. It is a lot but it is not as much as the window. At first, I thought it overlooked the dining room and after spending way too much time focusing on this, I realized it overlooks the second front door. I also realized the folks in Stephenville are seeming wiser with every photo.
The sink in this bathroom resembles a trough. Do you know who else likes troughs? Cows. But I will tell you, Mootilda and her girls would absolutely love the master bathroom. It has not one, not two, not three, but four stripper poles.
Yeah baby, you just know the revenue ticker at the Stephenville town square would not be able to keep up as Mootilda and her girls put on a show in that bathroom. You know it would be udderly fantastic.
