During the first half of the 20th century the dominant style for home construction was Colonial Revival.

From 1910 to 1930s in America, nearly half of the homes built were in this simple, but elegant style that refers to early English and Dutch houses.

Colonial Revival Revived

Today, the Colonial Revival style is seen in many New Traditional houses — the era post-1990 where houses with more accurate historical proportions and elements of design are being built.

The open-concept floor plan is the benefit of modern home design.

Taking details and proportions from long ago and combining them with today’s efficiencies and materials has become a staple of many newer communities across Tarrant County.

One such community is Montserrat, a gated-and-guarded upscale community in southwest Fort Worth off Loop 820.

This home at 9409 Marbella Drive in Montserrat is a 2016-built that is a New Traditional Colonial Revival home.

Looks Old But Lives New

Designed to look 100 years old but meet the needs of today, this 4,763-square-foot home of five bedrooms and five-and-one-half bathrooms is a perfect example of what happens when two worlds collide to create a beautiful home.

Think about older homes that you have visited. What are the common threads? Smaller rooms, non-existent closet and storage space, low ceilings, and a choppy floor plan.

You certainly wouldn’t find a kitchen this fancy in an original Colonial Revival home from early 1900’s

Not at this home. The rooms are spacious and flowing. The open-concept floor plan that is so popular abounds here. Upstairs is a huge game room/playroom/bonus room — whatever you want to call it — for people to congregate.

This home is filled with designer materials — light fixtures, hardware, true hardwood flooring, countertops, appliances, and plumbing — all go into making this Colonial Revival home a desirable dwelling.

Another added feature of this home is the secondary staircase off the rear section of the home that leads to an unfinished area over the garage. This space can be finished as another bedroom or secondary master suite.
