Compass’ Amy Messer has a history of redoing houses. And she does them very well.

In 2016, while she was waiting for her Kessler Park home to be complete, she moved into 4218 Newton Avenue, Unit 1. She couldn’t resist. She turned that condo into a project, too.

Project is putting it mildly. It’s really more of a complete redo. We’re talking gutted kitchen and bathrooms, stairs striped of carpet and rebuilt in solid wood. It’s a stunner for sure. Once the Kessler house was complete, it was time to move on, so she sold her prize end unit on Newton Avenue to the current buyer and now it’s on the market again.

When a Realtor is in charge of a redo, it tends to be top-notch and this one is no exception. Messer called in favors and had an incredible crew that typically works exclusively on high-end properties in Highland Park. They brought her vision to life including designer wallpaper in the powder room.

Very little was left untouched. In fact, Messer said one of the only original details that remains is the bathtub in the primary bathroom.

They opened up the kitchen, added custom cabinets, an offset subway tile backsplash and a wine fridge.

New flooring, designer light fixtures, and quartz countertops were added as well. Keep in mind, the renovation was completed in 2016 and it still looks just as fresh today.

There’s a set of French doors that leads to a private patio surrounded by a board-on-board fence. The doors and the fence? You guessed it, replaced by Messer.

The location can’t be beat either. A short walk to restaurants, a Tom Thumb, and Highland Park. It’s a quiet and walkable pocket where evening strolls are strongly encouraged.

The community itself is super small and cozy and since there isn’t a pool, those HOA dues stay low. As for residents, it’s a mix of long timers and newcomers – a nod to this particular collection of condos being a hot spot and also one you reluctantly leave.

One final perk of having a former owner as the listing agent, she knows all the extra perks. Like the fact that there’s a big grassy yard out back where you can let your pets stretch their little dog legs.

If you’d like to take a look or just go ahead and make an offer, reach out to Messer or her Sam Silverman, her co-listing agent. They have the two-bedroom, one-bathroom, one-powder room condo at 4218 Newton Avenue, Unit 1 listed at $279,900.
