And given that the homes in the area can be some of the more affordable choices in Dallas, falling in that $200,000 range at the low point, it’s easy to see why young families flock there.

And on average statewide, homes between $200,000 and $300,000 still have one of the lowest months of inventory at about 3.4 months.

So when this East Dallas Midcentury Ranch came to our attention, we immediately took notice — located at 417 Easton Road, it’s within walking distance to Hexter, and is right in the middle of Old Lake Highlands, and minutes from great shopping and dining in White Rock.

The three-bedroom, one bath home has 1,117 square feet of living space. While that might seem like not enough bathrooms and not enough square footage, I can tell you that up until about a year ago, your writer lived in a house about this size, with a then first-grader, and it was the home we brought him to when he was a newborn.

Houses like this are great for the young couple, or even the bachelor or bachelorette, because they will indeed work for a small family for quite some time. And as long timers in our old neighborhood would tell us, these homes originally held families for basically forever — it was not uncommon for us to hear about how a family of four or even five lived in a 3/1 their entire lives.

And these homes are built to last, and they are a great value. This week’s Tuesday Two Hundred on Easton features wood floors, neutral paint, and the original pink tile bathroom that Midcentury lovers adore.

There’s a huge backyard with a privacy fence, a deck, an outdoor fire pit, flower gardens, and a storage shed. A half-garage conversion can be just about anything you want, from utility room to home office.

This Old Lake Highlands catch of a home is priced at $291,500 and is listed by Kathryn Roan with Keller Williams Urban Dallas.
