There wasn’t much warning when devastating tornadoes swept through Dallas Oct. 20. The storms caused $2 billion in damage and left residents scrambling to find a place to live. If you’re one of those families and you’ve ever entertained the idea of good country living, now might be a good time to check out Royse City.

This Kelly Lane rental has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and comes equipped with a refrigerator, washer, and dryer.

Realtor Stephanie Couron of Keller Williams said the property is perfect for a temporary lease situation.

“It’s close to I-30, close to downtown fun, food, and shopping,” she said, adding that there’s no homeowners’ association, and therefore, no pesky dues.

The bedrooms and bathrooms have new flooring.

Gimme Shelter

A natural disaster can certainly be humbling, and in the wake of last month’s storms, hundreds of families were left seeking shelter, haggling with insurance companies, and making tough decisions about whether to rebuild or relocate.

“Insurance typically will cover the homeowners’ cost of a hotel or rental while the home is being repaired, depending on the extent of damage,” Couron said.

The 1,344-square-foot home has spacious rooms, an open floor plan, and high living room ceilings.

A covered deck and patio also are featured in this 2003 home in Rockwall County’s Estates of Quail Ridge subdivision.

The home is less than two miles from Arboledas Mexican Grill, The Well Coffee Lounge, Soulman’s Bar-B-Que, and Thirsty Bro Brewing.

School Days

Royse City ISD scored a B overall with B’s in student achievement and closing the gaps, and a C in school progress, according to txschools.gov.

Anita Scott Elementary School didn’t fare as well with C’s and D’s on its Texas Schools scorecard. Harry H. Herndon Middle School picked up a B in student achievement, which shows “how much students know and are able to do at the end of the school year.”

Royse City High School was awarded a B overall and in student achievement, but got C’s in school progress and closing the gaps.

Realtor Stephanie Couron of Keller Williams is leasing 1513 Kelly Lane, Royse City, for $1,500 per month.
