Midcentury Oasis in Ridglea Neighborhood

I love the unique, small pockets of homes throughout Fort Worth. Areas that you probably pass on a daily basis but never notice until one day you look over and say, “Wow! That’s a good little neighborhood!”

Such a neighborhood can be found in the Ridglea area of West Fort Worth between Bryant Irvin and Westridge Avenue. It’s not a neighborhood that you would easily notice. It sits high on a hill so you can’t even see it from Bryant Irvin. Unless you specifically make a point of driving on Westridge Avenue, you probably would never think to take that street.

Nonetheless, Ridglea is a gem of an area. Technically it’s part of the Ridglea Addition, it does view the Ridglea Country Club golf course, but to most people, the Ridglea area would be a little further west. The community is filled with about 50 to 60 homes, many in that 1,800 to 2,700-square-foot range. Many are Midcentury Modern, which is one of the more popular architectural styles of the day.

On the corner of Westridge Avenue and Winthrop Avenue West sits today’s focus. The home at 4700 Winthrop Avenue West is a Midcentury home a stone’s throw from the Ridglea golf course with an oasis of a backyard.

Built in 1950, this 2,793-square-foot, three-bedroom, and two-and-one-half-bathroom home was taken to the studs and recently resurrected into an energy-efficient masterpiece.

The current owner actually leased this home in the early 2000s and jumped on the opportunity to own it a few years ago. After extensive renovations, the home looks fantastic inside and outside and is ready to be enjoyed.

So many large windows to enjoy the backyard oasis.

Inside, the floorplan is open and bright. Quickly you will notice all the windows throughout the home. They are large and inviting and allow for natural light to pour into the home while allowing for enjoyable views.

The kitchen has been completely updated with plenty of counters, cabinets, and prep space. The corner window at the kitchen sink allows for more views and light and isn’t something you’ll see in new homes. While there have been many updates, the home still has a Midcentury feeling and vibes.

The primary suite also boasts a large room and wonderful bathroom — and more of those great windows. Stained wood panels cover the ceiling of the bathroom, contrasting nicely with the crisp white walls, tile, and counters.

Might want curtains for that window, but we love the contrasting colors.

Backyard Oasis

As summer approaches, the backyard of 4700 Winthrop Avenue West will certainly be the main draw. A sprawling pool and spa are surrounded by large shade trees. Warm summer nights will be a breeze relaxing on the patio and taking a dip in the pool.
