With Growth on His Mind, Kyle Lyon Roars Into Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s

This week Kyle Lyon and his team will join Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s — a move he felt he needed to make to take his business where he wanted it to go.

“I wanted to move us to a higher production level and a higher price point,” Lyon said. “I have nothing bad to say about Keller Williams. I still love them to death and think they are a great company.”

One of the things that Lyon said attracted him to Briggs Freeman was the fact that they have so many top-producing agents. Seeing the success they were having made him ready to become, in his words, a “small fish in a big pond.”

Lyon’s business is centered primarily in the core of Dallas, though he is involved in multiple outlying projects within an hour of downtown. He’s established a niche in the Oak Lawn area that he hopes to expand. He also believes that the Briggs Freeman brand will help him increase his presence in the Park Cities and East Dallas.

“The approach that Kyle Lyon and his team take — building relationships with clients and serving as their real estate advisor beyond the transaction — matches perfectly with the relationship-based approach that our agents take with their clients, and, in fact, that Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty takes with its own agents,” President and CEO Robbie Briggs said.

Building relationships has been the foundation of his business. Now that he’s going into his seventh year in real estate, he’s been able to see families grow, moving from starter homes to larger ones as they marry, have kids, and live out their lives. In order to maintain those relationships, Lyon regularly hosts events for them to show his gratitude.

“It’s so great to be part of people’s lives and to help them achieve their goals of moving up to that American dream,” he said.

In his younger days, Lyon never really considered going into real estate. He earned a degree in culinary arts and restaurant management and worked at a restaurant in California. A couple of years later he realized that wasn’t where he wanted to be, so he moved to Dallas and worked at a Highland Park restaurant. When it closed down, a friend suggested he would do well in real estate. He took the suggestion, got his license and decided to give it a go.

For the first few months, he had just enough money to get by. He was literally down to the last few dollars in his bank account when he closed his first deal. Since then it’s been constant growth.

Like most agents, his businesses struggled in April and May due to COVID-19.  However, June turned out to be one of his best months to date as buyers returned in droves. With the rest of the year uncertain, he expects to see buyers being much more cautious when deciding where their money goes.

Looking ahead, Lyon says he wants his team to be “small but mighty.” Instead of trying to build a huge team, he’s happy to stay with a more modest-sized group that is really good at what they do. He also plans to add real estate investing and remodeling to his portfolio somewhere in the not-so-distant future.

In the man time, Lyon says that he’s just looking forward to what the future has to offer. For him, real estate is not so much a job as it is his life. It’s something he loves doing and hopes to continue for a long time.

“We’re excited about the move. We can’t wait,” he said. “Hopefully this is something that will take us to that next level.”
