Collin County continues to be a hotbed of development. A master-planned community with homes from the low $300,000s is being developed in northwest McKinney.
Taylor Morrison and Pulte Homes are splitting the work of developing Highland Lakes, a 1,376-home master-planned community. The two builders are splitting the work evenly, building 688 houses each on 450 acres of real estate between Bloomdale Road near FM1461.
“It is an ideal location in northern McKinney that has extensive open space, including a beautiful lake and scenic views,” Keith Hurand, president of Taylor Morrison’s Dallas Division, said in a statement.
The development is also a few miles from two major lakes — Lewisville Lake to the west and Lavon Lake to the east — in either direction on U.S. 380.

Construction starts this month with model homes expected to open by fall 2022.
Taylor Morrison will offer 15 floor plans ranging from 1,650 to 3,450 square feet. Pulte Homes will have 11 floor plans ranging from 1,690 to 3,600 square feet. The first building phase will consist of 229 one- and two-story houses that start in the low $300,000s.
Ashford Park in Corinth
Meritage Homes announced that it has closed on an 82-acre land purchase for a 437-lot subdivision in Corinth. Named Ashford Park, the development is expected to start late this year with home sales to begin in early 2023. The development is off Lake Sharon Drive, west of Interstate 35E and Lewisville Lake.
Meritage will build a mix of 208 two-story cottage-style bungalows and 229 single-story homes. The bungalows will be priced in the high $200,000s and range in size from 1,800 to 2,400 feet. The single-story homes will range from 1,800 to 3,400 square feet.
Planned amenities include a community center with a pool, a children’s playground, hike and bike trails, and landscaped open spaces. The community will be in the Lake Dallas ISD.
“Building on our success in the thriving city of Corinth, Ashford Park will sit adjacent to a previous Meritage development, Terrace Oaks,” Austin Woffinden, Meritage Homes Dallas Division President, said in a statement.

Developers have ceremoniously broken ground for The Farm, a major mixed-use project off the Sam Rayburn Tollway on Alma Drive.
The 135-acre development will have residential and commercial instruction and is being developed in collaboration with the Johnson family, which has owned the land since 1964, and Allen-based JaRyCo Development. Omniplan, which has offices in Dallas and Phoenix, is the architect.
The development will feature more than 1.6 million square feet of office space, shopping, a 150-room hotel, and townhomes and apartments.
The development is designed to include a 2½-acre lake with a boardwalk, more than two miles of hike-and-bike trails, and a 16-acre greenbelt along Watters Creek.
