Oh this one is so cute. It’s a two-bedroom, two-bathroom home over in Buckner Terrace, a quiet, convenient little neighborhood just across Interstate 30 from White Rock Lake, Little Forest Hills, the Fraternal Order of Eagles pool (it’s open!), and everything on the other side of the highway.
Because Buckner Terrace is south of I-30, the prices stay a little lower, but the charm is all there. It’s a pocket where you can walk the streets, enjoy the trees, and wave to neighbors as you see fit.
The commute to downtown Dallas is essentially the same, but here you get this whole 1,400-square-foot house with a screened-in porch for $289,000. It needs a little updating — countertops here and there and new windows would be fantastic. But it’s all pretty doable at that price point and that makes it feel like kind of a steal.
Redfin’s Justin Martin said he thinks it’s an up-and-coming neighborhood for sure. But whereas sometimes that means houses need major help, over here it seems to be a little more cosmetic. It’s more of an “original tile, needs updating” vs. “total overhaul, take it to the studs.”
It’s a pleasant surprise and we don’t get a ton of those in this market. Inside you’ll find original hardwoods and the classic circle ceiling swirl in tremendous shape. The kitchen is compact but has everything you need.
It wouldn’t take much to make this one your own. It’s been well cared for and has a fresh coat of paint. And if you’re wondering if that’s a little kitty cut out in the coat closet door? It most definitely is.
There’s also an inset cabinet in the living room where you could take the doors off, add open shelving and house all your knickknacks. You could probably afford to gold plate them, too, because again, THAT PRICE.
What else would I do? Glad you asked. I’d swap out the front door with a glass inset midcentury little something and probably paint it an eye-catching color. Like maybe a really pretty red with a hint of orange? Then I’d landscape the heck out of the front of the house and go low-maintenance desert-y agaves all the way. Finally, I’d swap out the light fixtures inside, and then you’d have yourself an extra stunner.
