Tuesday Two Hundred: This Claremont Home Has More Than Meets The Eye

Yes, I totally ripped the headline of this post from the “Transformers” slogan, but honestly, I couldn’t think of a better way to describe this interesting home in the East Dallas subdivision of Claremont. I actually ran into a couple who just bought their first home in this area on April 1, and I thought, “We haven’t posted about this area in a while. I need to remedy that.”

So when I was browsing MLS, looking for just the right home to feature, they were all either too small, too outdated, or with too few good photos. And then I saw 8334 Banquo Dr. and I had to fumble around to find my jaw because it had dropped to the floor.

Talk about completely unexpected, amiright? This house is a 1959 ranch that has been updated and expanded for an active family. Thanks to the removal of a few key walls, this home is now bright, modern, and open inside. It has fantastic curb appeal, with a circle drive and great landscaping, but whoa! I totally wasn’t expecting this! Two living rooms, a cool corner fireplace and full bar with wine fridge, and enough space to do a waltz hits you right when you open the front door.

With three bedrooms, three full baths and one half bath, this home clocks in at 2,477 square feet and is listed for $270,000. Considering the remodel, the upstairs addition, and the pool, that’s not far off from what I’d expect it would fetch in this market. It’s been listed for just less than a month, so we’ll have to see if it moves as fast as many other smaller, less-expensive homes in the neighborhood have. The kitchen is a galley style affair with granite counters, new cabinets with modern hardware plus seeded glass fronts, and stainless steel appliances. The mixed backsplash is kind of quirky, but considering the varied slate floors, I’ll allow it.

There’s so much to love about this house, including the upstairs master suite with a five-piece bath and balcony. The master bath is interesting, with an unexpected mix of tile, a frameless shower and adjacent soaking tub, and plenty of light from a huge window and the French doors in the master bedroom. I also love the idea of the winding spiral staircase that can take you down from the second floor to the pool, or back up incase you want to bypass the living areas after taking a soak in the spa. I could do without the lime green paint, though.

The outdoor areas have been opened and expanded to include ample storage and covered parking for cars or even an RV or boat if that’s more your style. The pool area includes a neat pagoda that evokes memories of beach-side lounging on vacation. And the pool and surrounding deck looks like just the spot to hang out with friends and family.
