[Editor’s note: Merry Christmas! This week, we’re taking time off to focus on our loved ones, so we are sharing some of our favorite stories from this year. Keep an eye out for our top features from the archives as we rest and get ready for a brilliant 2020! Cheers, from Candy and the entire staff at Daltxrealestate.com!]

The struggle is real for buyers looking for sub-$500,000 homes that are becoming harder to find these days, but this Lake Highlands Estates home renovated by the husband-and-wife team of East Dallas Modern we featured as the High Caliber Home of the Week a while back is still on the market and now $10k less.

We’re big fans of East Dallas Modern, the husband and wife team of Stesha and Daniel Gearner, who left corporate America several years ago and turned their attention full-time to renovating midcentury homes. They’ve got a knack of turning around dated homes with style and time-period touches as they’ve done with more than a dozen homes in East Dallas.

David Collier of David Griffin & Company Realtors has listed the East Dallas couple’s latest project, a four-bedroom, two-bath, 1,660 square foot home on Bondstone Drive in Old Lake Highlands. Homes in this neighborhood have been flying off the shelf, so to speak, as buyers with a great eye see plenty of potential in these 50s and 60s homes.

That was certainly the case for the Gearners, who updated the already light-colored exterior brick with a crisp shade of linen and removed the contrasting exterior shutters to give a smooth simple facade. Inside, the original hardwood floors shine now that the floor plan has been opened up to add more natural light throughout.

As you can see in the before and after photos, East Dallas Modern opened up the dining room to the kitchen by knocking down a wall and adding a midcentury-inspired Sputnik light fixture from West Elm.

Now the updated kitchen with breakfast bar looks light and bright, featuring quartz countertops, white subway tile backsplash, white cabinets with modern hardware, and stainless steel appliances including oven, vent hood, and dishwasher.

The large master suite is private from other bedrooms and overlooks the backyard that has a wood privacy fence and a detached two-car garage. The couple gutted the master bath to update with modern double vanities, quartz countertops, and a large walk-in shower.

Located in Lake Highlands Estates, the home is walking distance to DISD’s Hexter Elementary and a mile and a half from Flagpole Hill and White Rock Lake.

David Collier has listed 571 Bondstone Drive for $479,000.
