The whole of North Dallas is full of houses with excellent bones. These homes, many built in the 1970s, are just waiting for the right person to come along and revive them. I’ve long been in love with the bold, angular rooflines, vaulted ceilings, and open floor plans of 1970s soft contemporary architecture, and I get quite giddy when I see one that’s received an especially good-looking facelift.
That’s what happened when Ernesto Miranda, Principal of Magellan Architects (formerly Walker + Miranda), took on 6212 Emeraldwood Place in the Northwood Hills neighborhood. Located just south of Belt Line Road and west of Hillcrest, this neighborhood is chock full of 1070s soft contemporary architecture. The curb appeal is amazing, and we love the private entry courtyard that screens the huge walls of floor-to-ceiling windows from the street, allowing you to get great views of this secluded space without sacrificing privacy.
“Lemmons Remodeling is responsible for the look of the front of the home,” said David Griffin & Company listing agent Brandon Stewart. “They added all of the cedar and stone accents that really make the incredible curb appeal of the home.”
Stewart, who normally specializes in Midcentury Modern architecture, notes that the renovation isn’t specifically in this architectural style, but fans of clean lines will be impressed.
“The home is not a Midcentury Modern, but it definitely has that vibe,” he added. “Large expanses of glass flood the home with natural light and blur the line between interior and exterior spaces.”

There are gobs of upgrades throughout, including new HVAC, electrical, updates to the pool, and so much more. It’s a house that is not only move-in ready, but can easily live just as it is for years to come. That’s the sign of a great update, we think.
The kitchen is perfect, in my opinion. It’s a great size, and offers tons of storage in the custom, European-style cabinetry in the main kitchen and down the hall in the butler’s pantry, which has a huge built-in desk area that can also serve as a buffet or staging area for catering should you be an avid entertainer.
Stewart has listed this chic Northwood Hills soft contemporary for $899,000. That’s a pretty great deal considering just how much work has gone into this home. From floor to ceilings, kitchens and baths to bedrooms, no surface on this 1975-built home has been left untouched. And there are so many great ideas executed flawlessly in this design.
Case in point: The master suite.
The master suite is a true retreat. It’s unapologetically large, with plush carpet and plenty of windows for that delicious natural light. But it’s the bathroom that has us impressed. We know that large showers are a huge trend that’s not going away any time soon, but losing a bath tub isn’t an option for some people (me, specifically). So it’s wonderful to see that this master bath has the best of both worlds! A large European-style wet area with a niche for a large bathtub to soak those achy joints while you enjoy your bubbly is so on point!
