Original Details on This Junius Heights Prairie-Style Will Make Vintage Home Lovers Swoon

We’ve spotted a trend in historic neighborhoods where people maintain the beautiful architectural details on the outside, but render the era unrecognizable inside. To find a home on the market in places such as Munger Place or Junius Heights with vintage chandeliers and tile is extremely rare.

However, David Collier at David Griffin & Co. Realtors has a listing with tons of original fixtures and the kinds of updates that make a vintage home truly noteworthy. That’s why this Junius Heights Prairie-style home is our Highlight Home of The Week sponsored by Dallas mortgage banker Lisa Peters of Cardinal Financial.

“There are some homes where you can immediately feel at peace the moment you walk in,” Collier told daltxrealestate.com. “This is one of those homes.”

A lot of that has to do not with what the seller of this 1925-built home did, but with what she didn’t do. First and foremost are the light fixtures, which include beautiful vintage brass chandeliers in almost every room. Additionally, the original hardwood floors add so much character and warmth.

The three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath home has 2,498 square feet and features a lovely sunroom at back as well as two living rooms (each with a gas fireplace), a formal dining room, a breakfast room with a butler pantry, and a beautifully renovated kitchen.

Throughout the home, you’ll notice little things like the glass drawer pulls and cabinet hardware, the farmhouse-style apron sink, or even the vintage door that separates the kitchen and the mudroom. To find these kinds of details inside a home in Junius Heights — the largest historic district in Dallas — is practically unheard of and speaks to the seller’s appreciation for the era.

“The owner put a lot of love into this home,” Collier said. “Honoring the home’s historic authenticity and design integrity led all of her thoughtful improvements and what she preserved.”

Speaking of what was preserved, we adore the vintage fixtures in the half bath, and both full baths feature period-appropriate aesthetics — something we rarely see.

In the kitchen, the owner chose to update the cabinetry with a lovely cool gray on the lower cabinets and a crisp white on the uppers, which are scalloped and glazed. The Carrara marble counters are the perfect complement to the warm shiplap in both the kitchen and adjacent mudroom.

“This iconic Praire-style home encompasses everything: charm, history, beauty, and an architectural aesthetic that you will fall in love with instantly,” Collier added.

Plus, the fully detached 600-square-foot garage and huge unfinished attic mean that you don’t have to cope with what we usually don’t love about vintage homes — a lack of storage.

David Collier with David Griffin & Co. Realtors has listed 5926 Reiger Ave. in Junius Heights for $750,000.
