This week’s Inwood Home of the Week, sponsored by Inwood National Bank, is located in Old Lake Highlands but a look back at a 1955 Dallas Morning News ad gives us a glimpse at the new Lake Highlands Estates.

Winding, paved streets with paved alleys, panoramic views, and choice, wooded lots were the selling points of these customized GI homes, as they were called in the ‘50s. But small, 1,000-square-foot cottages they were not. These Lake Highlands Estates homes were spacious two- and three-bedroom-homes with all-tile bathrooms, rear entry garages, and all the latest in home design. This featured home is a beautiful example of this.

Listed by Jenny Capritta of RE/MAX DFW Associates, this pier and beam brick home has three bedrooms, two and one-half baths, and a generous 2,034 square foot open floor plan. Need another clue of this home’s heritage? Look at the size of the mighty Live Oaks that flank the home. (Speaking of heritage, a little digging reveals the home was once owned and occupied by its original builder. Just a fun little factoid.)

The renovated great room gives you a full array of dining and lounging options. (Though if you’re like me, the sheer number of living space configurations gives me tired head, so I’d just ask star stager Karen Eubank what to do.)

The kitchen features oak cabinetry, granite countertops, stainless appliances including gas cooking, and a center island.

A few steps from the kitchen, there’s an enclosed breezeway from the kitchen/great room to the laundry room and backyard. There is a private owners retreat with en-suite bath, bonus room, and a private home office. A two-car attached garage offers ample storage, workshop, and a half bath.
