As we’ve said before, sometimes the WTF in the Wednesday WTF is more of a “Why The Friend Wouldn’t You Want This House?” Today’s Chattanooga Midcentury Modern with the adorable pink door is one of those times.
Someone slid this into my email inbox last week, and I spent a full week using it as my moment of Zen, because virtual learning is a whole thing now and if you thought the first week of school was rough before, try the first week of school where you’re in charge the whole day and you don’t get to just wave at the teacher at pickup and drop off.
Namaste in this house, y’all.
It’s a 1959 home with four bedrooms and three-and-a-half baths, and the current owners embraced the Midcentury vibe with period-perfect touches that were precise enough to avoid being entirely twee and overbearing. It embraces the open concept popular in many homes of the time, and many of the silhouettes and color schemes, but refrains from annoyance by seamlessly including them as punctuation to a well-designed, well-maintained, and well-renovated home with modern upgrades.
That takes some brains.
And that attention to detail begins at the curb, with this Atomic Ranch-feel mailbox that matches the pink front door.
And right away, you see that attention to small period-details at the front door, with the starburst doorknob backplate and matching doorbell.
Inside, you see judicious use of wallpaper, clever tile work, small Midcentury nods like the cabinet hardware in the kitchen, and a floor plan that takes full advantage of the large windows at the back of the great room.
The owner’s suite offers a bathroom with a sleek, modern backbone, but more artful tile work to ground it in its Midcentury roots.
Additional bathrooms also boast some period-perfect tile, too.
Outside, a back patio overlooks a yard that could probably house a nice pool at some point. On the front elevation, Midcentury-inspired screening provides some privacy for additional outdoor space.
The home is priced at $433,000, but already (and unsuprisingly) already has a contingency offer.
