This Midcentury Modern on Oak Glen Trail is The Most Brilliant Hidden Gem

I’m about to break a lot of hearts with this one. It was listed last Friday so, I truly hope you’re sitting down for this shocker – it’s already under contract.

But some houses are just too good not to feature. And the stories. Oh the stories. There are a myriad with this one.

I asked Compass’ Karen Davila what her favorite thing about the home is with the caveat it’s perfectly acceptable to say, “everything.” She said, basically, but then narrowed it down to the fact that with what are essentially walls of windows, the trees and bamboo become art.

Set on almost one full acre, this house didn’t always look this good. In fact, a few owners ago it was condemned. Then an investor came in and did a pretty solid job restoring it to its former glory.

Not all the fixtures were 100 percent right, but not to worry, the next owner (and current sellers) finished off what the investor started.

One of the owners is an interior designer and he’s so talented it makes me angry a little bit. I’d love to sit down and just say, where’d you find that?! And that?!? And THAT. And he’s YOUNG, too. So not fair to have so much talent at such a young age.

Well, he and his partner saw something in this home. The rock fireplace, the skylights, the midcentury appeal … they knew they could take what was good and make it great.

Co-listing agent Bill Farrell said the series of pillars separating the dining and living areas was originally just two dinky little posts. The owners encased them in wood, added a few more to truly define the space, then gave the same treatment to the beam above.

Farrell said the location is unique, too. It’s behind the golf course set at the end of a cul-de-sac. The golf course is The Golf Club of Dallas, which at one time was going to be sold to developers, but the locals said oh heck no and shot that idea down. Farrell said The Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship Church currently owns the course and in the summertime, you can grab a pool-only membership for around $600. There’s a clubhouse, restaurant and bar. It’s a great place to head at the end of a long, crazy day.

You know, kind of like the day Davila and Farrell both had this weekend when 1502 Oak Glen Trail hit the market for $375,000.
