This Merriman Park Home Has 1970s Vibes Inside And Out

This is a house where friends gather. The listing agent Laura Mauelshagen‘s friend grew up in this Merriman Park home, where many, many friends poured in for pool parties and good times. It was built in 1974 and retains all the original good times vibes.

Whee, this house is very ’70s. It’s been updated here and there, but has stayed so true to the original era it’s not even funny.

The kitchen was updated in 2017 with all-new custom cabinetry, countertop, and backsplash and the owner hand-laid these surfaces with Mexican tile. It mimics the era and the other original gem – Saltillo tile. If you grew up in Plano, lived in Plano, or ever had the fortune of hanging out at Collin Creek Mall back in the day, there’s a special place in your heart for Saltillo. It paved the way to the food court and the literal creek that ran inside the mall. But enough about a wistful trip down Frulatti way, let’s get back to this house.

Mauelshagen said one of her favorite features is the former porch that is now an enclosed sunroom. It opens up the living room and floods everything in warm sunlight. Plus, there’s additional bonus storage too.

By far my favorite feature is the freaking roofline and that killer set of clerestory windows that bring the outdoors into the primary bedroom.

The location? CAN’T BEAT IT. It’s in Merriman Park Estates, super close to White Rock Lake and feeds in the one, the only Merriman Park Elementary. Highly sought after by Dallas families with school-age kiddos.

Also sought after? THAT POOL. There’s a pretty legit covered deck to keep you cool in between games of Marco Polo, and Mauelshagen said there’s even a side yard that they didn’t capture. Fill those pots around the pool with easy greenery, pop some CB2 loungers out there, and you could easily transform the backyard into a certified oasis.

While I’m making suggestions that literally no one asked for, how fun would it be to hang black and white stripe curtains around the interior perimeter of that covered porch? It’s like an instant cabana.

Hidden behind a short brick wall, there is a private courtyard with a wraparound brick wall. Mauelshagen said the owners absolutely head out there every morning for fresh air and a cup of coffee. And to think, that could be you.

Mauelshagen has 6829 Kenwhite Drive listed for $649,900, a total steal in a neighborhood filled with million-dollar homes. Stop by the Open House today, April 1 from 1 to 4 p.m.
