This Cedars Home Is Burning Hot, Both Figuratively and Literally

This week’s High Caliber Home of the Week, sponsored by Lisa Peters of Caliber Home Loans went under contract as fast as a high-speed bullet train headed to Houston.

And that’s not an superfluous simile. This custom contemporary home at 1605 McKee Street is located in The Cedars, future site of the high-speed Texas Central Railway station (aka Dallas Bullet Train).

Wayne Garcia of Garcia + Hubach Real Estate listed the three-bedroom home with 1,848 square feet for $479,000.

“The turnout was tremendous,” Garcia says. “I listed it on Wednesday evening. We had 16 showings on Thursday, 12 on Friday, and by Friday afternoon we accepted an offer above list price.”

That’s three days on market!

Built in 2015, the home has a cool, stylish vibe with clean lines and lux materials at the core of its aesthetic, Garcia says. But modern meets ancient with the Japanese technique used on the wood exterior, an emerging design trend the New York Times Style Magazine wrote about in 2017.

The cedar siding is sealed in the 18th century method of Shou-Sugi-Ban, Artisans char the wood surface to waterproof and preserve it, rendering it a brown-black color with carbonized wood grain texture.

The xeriscaped front yard leads to a gated courtyard with cut Pennsylvania bluestone patio, in-ground fire pit, and low maintenance landscaping. Enter the two-story living area that features an original abstract mural, polished concrete floors, and sliding glass walls that open to the courtyard.

The open kitchen has stunning gray streaked marble countertops, stainless steel appliances, open shelving, and a unique metal backsplash that gives depth to the design.

The downstairs master suite overlooks side and back yards with two sliding glass walls that bring the outside in.

Upstairs you’ll find two additional bedrooms, one full bath, and a loft-office overlooking the gallery below. By the attached garage, there is a fully-finished workshop with AC that could be a separate office. Nowadays, one office space for multiple household members won’t cut it anymore.

Ideally located in The Cedars neighborhood just four minutes from downtown, Bishop Arts, Deep Ellum and all your favorites.
