This Casa View Oaks Remodel Does Not Disappoint

Hey, this house looks gray, right? WRONG. Compass Real Estate’s Svetlana Grujic said it’s actually Cobalt Blue. Plot twist, right? And so is the inside.

This little three-bedroom short stack is a classic 1950s home over in Casa View Oaks, still one of the most affordable neighborhoods in East Dallas.

It’s been gutted and completely remodeled. Walls removed, opened up, free-flowing and feelin’ its one-room-blends-into-the-next vibes. I don’t think I’ve ever realized what a dramatic difference taking down a few walls can make. We all know 1950s homes. They’re cute and cozy, but this one looks HUGE. And what all is missing? A little drywall and some baseboards.

It is crazy to me how much different the interior looks all opened up and updated. Hats off to the stagers who did a great job defining the space.

How about that extensive remodel, too?

Grujic points out that, in the living room, a contemporary gas fireplace was added with an inset for your flat screen TV just above it. You can tell there wasn’t a fireplace because … anyone? Anyone? There’s no chimney on the exterior. So now you have an extra cozy living room.

You know what? That TV nook isn’t that big of a deal, right? Just one small detail in a majorly long list of details. But it’s thoughtful and different and that’s the kind of stuff that sets a home apart.

One other thing that you might overlook at first is the cedar semi-wall out front. You likely think that’s just a decorative detail or part of the apparent cedar mandate that seems to be going around, but nope. It has a purpose.
It’s there to create privacy and a small courtyard just outside your front door. Again, one simple detail, but totally helps set this home apart.

On the interior side, facing the house, I’d add a little scattershot of potted plants clinging to the cedar. And you know I’d string some garden lights, too. As for seating, maybe those super low-slung molded plastic Ikea chairs? Or even better, those nylon-corded, atomic-looking chairs? Finish it off with a fire pit, but a responsible one because that’s way close to the house.

As for the exterior, you know it’s only a matter of time before some brushed aluminum street numbers are added and we’re into it.
