Mother’s Day, celebrated the second Sunday of May in the U.S., is upon us. In case you haven’t seen any ads or commercials recently, you should know that this Sunday, May 14, will be Mother’s Day.

It was Anna Jarvis, whose own mother, Anna Marie Reeves Jarvis, inspired her to lobby for a day to celebrate all mothers. Anna’s mother, who was an activist and social worker, believed all mothers, both living and dead, deserved honor and tribute. After her mother’s death in 1905, the daughter never forgot her mother’s wish.

So the daughter sent carnations, her mother’s favorite flowers, in memory of her mother to a West Virginia church. Then in 1914, President Woodrow Wilson declared the took second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day in the U.S.

And there you go. Hallmark, florists, and robe manufacturers took notice and you’re now slammed with ads. I would like to inform you that your mother doesn’t need another coffee mug with some clever saying emblazoned upon it. A gallon of bubble bath and the time to enjoy it could be lovely. A corsage would be nice — red, or pink if her mother is living, and white if she’s gone on.

Here’s what your mom really wants: time with you. So, feed her well, and then why don’t you offer to accompany her on a nice stroll through open houses? Here are some you could consider, and treat her to food and a cold beverage either before or after. Or if you wanted to buy Mom a house, you could probably skip the bow. Consider one or all of these below.

3100 Saint Johns Drive, Highland Park

Mom is going to love this red brick Highland Park beauty. Located on a corner lot, this impressive home features 3,984 square feet and curb appeal deluxe.

This stately red brick home is sure to wow Mom.

Inside, the staircase, impressive and grand, sets the tone for the rest of the four-bedroom and four-bath home. The formal dining room and library both feature their own fireplaces, while the living room includes wonderful built-ins and French doors that open to the covered patio.

If Mom lived here, she’d enthusiastically allow you use the fabulous kitchen with its over-sized gas cooktop and 60-inch fridge. Bedrooms? The owner’s suite includes a separate shower and tub, plus two large walk-in closets for her to store all the robes you previously gave her for Mother’s Days’ past.

Upstairs is another bedroom with an ensuite bathroom, with the two additional bedrooms sharing a bath. A privacy fence surrounds the backyard. Want to hear the real bonus? There’s room for a mother-in-law to live in the guest quarters over the garage.

Priced at $2.7 million, this home would be a nice gift for any mother.

Celebrate Mother’s Day early by visiting this open house, held open by Taylor Johnson with Compass Real Estate, from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

6551 Gerrard Street, Frisco

As you know, Mom likes her stuff, including all those coffee mugs you’ve already given her. This custom-built Frisco home has so much storage, she’ll have a place to put all those lovely trinkets you’ve chosen for her previously.

Let’s start in the kitchen — it boasts not one, not two, but three pantries. The kitchen has plenty of cabinets to stash the dishes. Then the living room features built-ins surrounding the cozy fireplace. Should that get Mom overheated, no problem. The home boasts three Trane HVAC units.

High-end finishes will dazzle your mother.  Amaze her by pointing out the marble countertops, elegant wood flooring, and beautiful beamed ceilings.

With three bedrooms and four baths, this home measures 3,879 square feet and is priced at $1.3 million.

Take Mom to this open house, listed by Michael Harvey and Ted Cox with Ebby Halliday Realtors, from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Momma likes to swim. In fact, Momma likes to swim in all kinds of weather. so get her this great Overton Park home with a heated pool. When she’s ready to switch up her sport, she can try the private putting green outside.

The pool’s heated so Momma can swim in any season.

And if she needs to check her Insta account, she can do it from the home office, and then treat herself to a cocktail from the wet bar.

There’s so much to see in this five-bedroom, seven-bedroom home in its 7,128 square feet of light and bright rooms. Priced at $1.75 million, the home features four fireplaces, a three-car garage, vaulted ceilings, and a balcony. The dining room features stunning two-story windows, flooding the space with natural light.

A fireplace ensures a bedroom stays cozy.
Momma would enjoy brunch in this bright dining room with dramatic windows.

The living room overlooks the pool, and the kitchen features top-quality appliances and a breakfast area.

When Momma gets tuckered out from all that swimming and putting and cooking, she’ll enjoy the primary suite with its fireplace, sitting area, soaking tub, and TWO showers. Upstairs are another living area, three bedrooms, and two baths.
