It’s a Dallas tradition to honor mom and her commitment to her family and career (and all those dang peanut butter and jelly sandwiches she made and stories she read to you, even when she said she would only read one book and ended up reading five) with a special weekend at the Swiss Avenue Mother’s Day Home Tour.
This unique event showcases the lovely historic homes for which this neighborhood is known, and offers a fantastic marketplace and lovely tea that mom will appreciate even if it will take years and years to make up for that phase of your teens where you were a moody jerk to her every dang day.
This year’s 41st annual Swiss Avenue Mother’s Day Home Tour is going to be a great one, thanks to the stellar lineup of homes. Tour goers can check out 5907 Swiss Avenue, 5500 Swiss Avenue (AKA the Aldredge House), 5421 Swiss Avenue, 5408 Swiss Avenue, 4930 Swiss Avenue, 6243 LaVista Drive (AKA the Stubbs House), 6312 Bryan Parkway, and 6139 Bryan Parkway.
Of course, the Stubbs House should sound familiar to daltxrealestate.com readers, as this is the incredibly well-preserved home of Willetta Stellmacher, also known as the “Crown Jewel of Swiss Avenue.” Coldwell Banker Previews agent Elizabeth Mast is listing this home, which turns 100 this year, for around $1.5 million, as we reported. The tour will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday during Mother’s Day weekend (May 10-11), with tickets costing $20 in advance, $25 at Savage Park during the event, and free for children 12 and under.
A Mother’s Day champagne brunch will be held on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. featuring entertainment by The Singapore Slingers. Tickets for brunch are $22 per person. If you’re pinching pennies, the Aldredge House at 5500 Swiss Avenue (pictured above) will be open for free, hosting a series of public talks on Swiss Avenue and preservation.
