Susan Hawk and Mari Woodlief: The Real Estate Connection

Susan Hawk, Dallas DA

Everyone in town is talking about our District Attorney, Susan Hawk, and her return from a voluntary in-patient hospitalization at the famous Menninger Clinic in Houston the last several weeks.  D Magazine ran a comprehensive, well-written story by the talented Jamie Thompson on Sunday to scoop the local media and get the story buzzing before the week’s start. It’s a must-read. Here at daltxrealestate.com, we are always on the look-out for the real estate angle to breaking Dallas stories. So naturally we went a-hunting for the places where the main characters live, and the action took place:

Turns out Mari Woodlief, Hawk’s political consultant, owns a couple of nice Dallas properties.  Woodlief works for Allyn Media, one of the top political consulting firms in Texas founded by Rob Allyn, right now in the process of re-doing the company’s website. She has an adorable bright pink Cape Cod with blue shutters on West Beverly, in Beverly Terrace, she bought in 2007 for $817,000. Great timing for the buy. The home has 3538 square feet, four bedrooms, three full baths and one powder room. The house has been completely remodeled and expanded with hardwoods, custom interior wall treatments, a Kraft-Maid wood cabinet kitchen with stainless steel appliances and granite, an over-sized breakfast area with vaulted ceiling and family room. The master bedroom is downstairs with an updated luxury bath (think jetted tub, granite counters, seamless glass shower). Two more bedrooms and a full bath are upstairs with additional office-living area adjoining the rooms, which is likely where Susan Hawk is staying since she is living with Woodlief.

At 4:30 am on Wednesday, July 29, Hawk finally climbed out of bed. She pulled a black cardigan over her t-shirt and workout pants, and willed herself outside. She started her Lexus SUV and steered it through the empty streets. She drove a mile to a brick house on West Beverly Drive, parked in back, and called her friend and political consultant, asleep inside. “I’m at your back door,” Hawk said.

Mari Woodlief also owns a cute townhome on Oak Lawn Avenue which she apparently leases for $2950 a month: the three bedroom, three bath home is about 2600 square feet with a first floor foyer, guest room and bath, second floor living, dining and kitchen, and third floor master with guest bedroom and master spa bath with huge soaking tub. There is a two-car attached garage and get this, no HOA fees. Looks like Woodlief has owned this home since 2006, paid $438,000, then bought West Beverly in October, 2007. Woodlief ultimately leased out the Oak Lawn townhome, which she had on the market for a bit in 2013, at $439,000.
