Oak Cliff has been the native home to so many famous and talented people, including Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, but I had no idea it was also where blues great Stevie Ray Vaughan grew up.

About a week ago, I was looking at the homes owned by Democratic gubernatorial candidate Lupe Valdez, and I saw 2557 Glenfield Avenue pop up as the childhood home of Vaughan. Then I heard it was on the market,  It appears to have an option contract on it already… with a purple kitchen!

The 1,100-square-foot, two-bedroom, one-bath house at 2557 Glenfield Ave. listed at $159,900, is where Jimmie and Stevie Ray were raised. Amazing how comfortable people once were raising two children in an 1,100 square foot home years ago.

Here is how the agent, Ian Flannigan of eXp , describes the 63 year old home – Jump to see the interiors and the PURPLE kitchen!

Childhood Home of Stevie Ray Vaughan! Located in the heart of Oak Cliff and just 3 miles from Bishop Arts. This wonderful 2 bedroom home sits on an over sized lot with a large covered patio and privacy fence, great for entertaining family and guests. Fresh paint throughout entire interior, original hardwood floors and new gas furnace. Gated parking with plenty of space in the front for the car enthusiast. Minutes from downtown Dallas. Don’t wait to come take a look because this former home of Stevie Ray Vaughan won’t last long.

Stevie Ray Vaughan was only 35 when he died in a helicopter crash in Wisconsin 28 years ago next month. The helicopter was headed to Chicago.

Even more strange: Vaughan had relayed to his bandmates a disturbing dream where he witnessed his own funeral:

That evening, the guitarist, with his band Double Trouble, joined as special guests for a concert at the Alpine Valley Musical Theater, along with Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray and Vaughan’s big brother, Jimmie. After the show, four helicopters, owned and operated by Omniflight Helicopters Inc., were reserved to fly the artists and their crews back to Chicago. One helicopter was reserved for Stevie, Jimmie and Jimmie’s wife Connie. Members of Clapton’s crew, however, had already taken seats on the helicopter when the Vaughans arrived to board.
