Renovators’ Dream MCM Home Is Now Even More Irresistible

977-Sylvania-Dr.-Front-1-1

Maybe you saved this home on Zillow or saved it to your favorites on the Realtor.com app and forgot to come back and study it. But this 1955-built midcentury modern home on Sylvania Drive in East Dallas deserves another look because since we last featured it as Inwood National Bank’s Home of the Week three months ago, the price has come down a cool $26,000. $26K! That’s a lot of capital freed up to make this uber-cool midcentury listing by RE/MAX DFW Associates agent Jenny Capritta all your own.

This 2,753-square-foot home has three bedrooms and two baths on more than a quarter-acre in the Lake Gardens area of White Rock Lake, a neighborhood full of tall trees, winding streets with hilly topography, and an outstanding collection of original and renovated Midcentury Modern homes. As our executive editor Joanna England pointed out, this particular property offers something of a blank slate for those not afraid of taking a home to the studs and remaking it into a showplace. All the MCM pedigree is there with dramatic vaulted ceilings and a wall of windows bringing the outside in, which helps show off the period-traditional low pitched roofline.

While it’s obvious that this Midcentury Modern has had several renovations that have expanded the footprint, let’s take a look at before and after staging photos to get a better idea of how this home flows.

Not sure what to do with this long, sectioned off fishbowl of a room?

Make it an office.

First instinct to rip out the room dividing fireplace?

Eh, it could work as a layer of contrast to the wall of windows.

Don’t worry about all that carpet.

Rip it out and focus on the amazing built-ins instead.

Of course, these are just observations from my own amateur eye, so imagine the possibilities that exist with this home. The home already has a fresh coat of paint and new flooring in the open entry and solarium with skylights. The galley kitchen opens to the breakfast area and living area next to it, which could be opened up in renovation.
