Move-In Ready Midway Hills Ranch Has Eclectic Vibe

The sellers of this adorable Midway Hills ranch but quite a bit of thought and a lot of work into updating this home, and it shows. Besides the obvious curb appeal, this home is like a Transformer — there’s more than meets the eye.

First off, let’s just have a word about the fabulous neighborhood this cute 1950s traditional is in. Midway Hills is home to the Disney Streets, which is one of our favorite neighborhoods. That area is just a treasure trove of midcentury modern architecture, and even some cool Austin stone traditionals. It’s become a favorite among builders and remodelers, too, because of it’s great location — smack-dab in the middle of Midway and Marsh, just south of Merrell — and the large lots.

This home, marketed by Lindsay Thomas, sits on more than a third of an acre on Better Drive with expansive, grassy front and backyards. And inside, it’s a wonderfully relaxed traditional with some fantastic and thoughtful improvements.

If the name “Thomas” seems a bit familiar, you might recognize it from the recently announced Dallas Builders Association ARC Awards, at which Thomas Development and Construction — owned by Lindsay Thomas and her husband,  Matthew — won “Best New Home Under $1 Million” with their modern farmhouse on Durango. Yes, it’s the same modern farmhouse that was featured on last year’s AIA Dallas Tour of Homes.

So, should you be more in love with the lot than the home that’s on it, Thomas can help you make you manifest that vision board you’ve been feverishly clipping from House Beautiful or Veranda.

“To be perfectly honest, the house is technically move-in ready but most people who have been through have commented that they’d want to remodel, change the layout, add-on, etc.,” Thomas said. “Yes, it’s a great little house, but if someone is looking for something bigger, the lot is beautiful so it’s a perfect addition or new construction candidate.”

Thomas has listed this 1,800-plus-square-foot, three-bedroom, two-bath ranch at 10254 Better Dr. for $460,000, which is a pretty good price considering the lot and location.

Also, I love this clever bathroom update. “A previous owner remodeled the master bathroom and did it in such a way that it can be shut off, with part used as a powder bath for guests,” Thomas said. I love the idea and flexibility! You get another half bath without having to play Tetris with the walls of the home to fit it in there!

And then there’s that backyard with the spacious, elevated party deck and lovely canopy of trees. There’s plenty of room for young families to play, and if you want to put in a pool, there’s more than enough room.
