Mark Cuban Snaps Up a Vacation Home in Primo Laguna for Christmas

3-Montage-Way-pool-1024x768 Mark Cuban must really be celebrating this year.

According to my colleague Neal Leiterg at The LA Times, Cuban just bought a $25.5 Laguna mansion. And tough Shark Tank negotiator he is, Cuban reportedly paid only $19 million for it plus some change. And even more, the mansion is located in a very exclusive Laguna residential neighborhood, tucked into the coveted front row of Montage Residences overlooking the ocean. The views are incredible, the interiors California contemporary. Mahogany and glass doors disappear into the walls, merging vast indoor indoor areas to the outdoors seamlessly, revealing breath-taking views of Catalina Island. High ceilings complete the airy ambience and I cannot even fathom what the Pacific sunsets look like from this home. Laguna Beach is one of the most famous resort and luxury home communities in the world, with magnificent coastlines, pristine coves, white sand beaches, and breathtaking cliffs. Celebrities and business titans are all drawn to Laguna’s communities, and with good reason. Montage is an ocean-front Laguna resort community. And if you have never been to a Montage property, oh my: think the Ritz Carlton on steroids! Montage International is a luxury hotel and resort management company founded by Alan Fuerstman and based in Orange County, California.

Cuban’s pride and joy company, the Dallas Mavericks, has been in the news this past year as a veritable poster child for the #MeToo movement. That is, a poster child of how bad it is to work in some environments if you are female.

But as soon as the misconduct became known, Cuban took quick action  and hired a Dustbuster to turn his company’s culture around: Cynthia “Cynt” Marshall.

I hope she gets to check out these digs!3-Montage-Way-pool-1024x768

3-Montage-Way-pool-1024x768Before Cynt arrived on the scene, it was really pretty bad, apparently, for most women to work for the Mavericks:

The Dallas Mavericks organization was a sordid mess, rocked by scandalous headlines of sexual misconduct, domestic violence and a toxic locker-room environment inculcated over two decades.

Marshall promised swift, decisive and appropriate action.

Thus history was made in Dallas. Cynt Marshall became the first black woman business leader of an NBA team. She gave herself 100 days to clean up the franchise working environment, and she had carte blanche to fire, too, with a no-tolerance for sexiual harrassment BS mindset.

“Cynt is amazing,” says Cuban. “I wish I could have hired her 20 years ago. She has done an incredible job with the Mavs and has become a leader and mentor for all of us.”

So yeah, our local home-grown billionaire, Preston Hollow resident, television personality and of course owner of the Dallas Mavericks basketball franchise, has a new vacation spot to spend his off-seasons or unwind from corporate stress with the family.

As we said, the contemporary-style home is nestled within the Montage, a luxury resort community that overlooks the ocean. Homes in the area can utilize Montage Hotel amenities such as concierge, housekeeping and engineering support services. Electronic systems for lighting, environment, and audio visual are integrated for convenient monitoring of the home when you are not there.

3 Montage Way was built in 2010, so the home is only eight years old. Or rather, nine after tonight. The house is cloaked in stone, has a gated courtyard entry, high ceilings, mahogany finishes, six bedrooms and 7.75 bathrooms.

Wait, what is a fourth of a bathroom? Inquiring minds must know! And update: some news outlets are reporting the home as having NINE bathrooms. never fear, Daltxrealestate.com is on it!

The home is contemporary and very different from the Cuban’s traditional Preston Hollow estate on almost seven acres in the honeypot. Montage Way has a center-island kitchen, two family rooms, an office/den, wine cellar and bar, and a formal dining room. Outdoor entertaining possibilities are endless. All together there are 7,900 square feet of interior space. The lower level is reached by a floating glass staircase, boasting a media room and wall of flat screen TVs where the owners can watch everything. Not to miss out on the entertainment potential, a wet bar and a glass-enclosed wine cellar frost the space.

Of course, the ocean views of Catalina Island and lush landscaping are the backdrop for a deep swimming pool and fire pit. There is also a built-in barbecue area for outdoor grilling.

Listing agents were John and Tyler Stanaland of Villa Real Estate, and  Tim Smith of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage represented Cuban in the deal.
