Yes, now that our regularly scheduled fall home tours have come and gone, it’s time to make some room on your calendar for the Christmas home tours. The annual Holiday in the Highlands home tour organized by the Lake Highlands Women’s League is a perennial favorite, showcasing the surprising architectural diversity inside one of East Dallas’ best-known neighborhoods.

We caught up with two homeowners that are opening the doors of their adorable Lake Highlands home for this year’s home tour, Robin and Kelly Crawford. Find out more about this year’s tour featuring the Crawford’s absolutely adorable Estate Lane home and the other great houses on the Dec. 2 tour — as well as how to purchase tickets — after the jump!

daltxrealestate.com: What room or design element of your home will stand out to home tour goers?

Robin and Kelly Crawford:  The overall traditional, Southern design that includes French doors and a balcony may appeal to tour goers. We were very involved in the building process and incorporated some unique touches that are little unexpected for a new build. The black-and-white checked tile entry and huge walk-in attic space are couple of teasers.

CD: Is there any feature or finish in your home that tour goers shouldn’t miss?

Crawford: There are several pieces that have a story. The door to the pantry is a door from France. The hutch in the breakfast area is from a pharmacy in Spain. The armoire in the grandkids’ room looks like a dollhouse. I put a treat behind the front door of the armoire with the grandkids come for a visit. The first thing they do is run upstairs to find their treat! The master bedroom showcases a collection of Frozen Charlotte Dolls, as well as a painting that is an optical illusion, is the girl running towards you … or away for you? You’ll have to some see for yourself!

CD: If you had to choose one spot — inside or outside — on your property where you could spend all day, where would it be and why?

Crawford: The back porch (which includes a fireplace and TV) is one of our favorite places to relax. We enjoy spending time on the porch in all weather — the trees and the yard give us a peaceful retreat or a great place for the grandchildren to play!

CD: What are you doing to prepare for the home tour?

Crawford: We are decorating for Christmas in October! I also think we are driving the Home Tour committee a bit crazy because every time they come for a walk-through I have rearranged the furniture!

CD: Is there any history behind your home? Your neighborhood? Care to share?

Crawford: We raised our children in Lake Highlands but wanted to build the “perfect” grandparent house and staying in Lake Highlands was a priority. The one acre lot that was here originally was split into two lots. Highland Classic Homes built our home on the west lot.

CD: Why did you fall in love with your home? Your neighborhood?

Crawford: We love the big lots and huge trees – and of course we love Lake Highlands!
