Inwood Mortgage Home of the Week: Spring Ahead to One of the Most Beautiful Homes in Dallas North of LBJ

IHOTW-14225-HughesHere is a real treasure trove, brand new to the market, and you know how special that is! The listing agent, Marjorie Aarant of Aarant Realty, says 14225 Hughes Lane was a winner in D Home’s annual “Ten Most Beautiful Homes” 2012 beauty contest!

Well, not quite, but it should have been. 14225 Hughes lane was actually a full-fledged cover feature in D Home in 2012. This home, originally built in 1981, was completely gutted and remodelled by owner and Global Views Creative designer Rick Janecek about six years ago. There is so much attention to detail, it would take me 6000 words to fully describe it all.

14225-Hughes-entry-porch-575x383For example, there is Pecky cypress on the ceilings, unique custom hardware, all walls are museum finish, marble — yes, real marble counters —  are extra thick and deep, new thermo windows and 30 (yes, 30!) skylights throughout for an abundance of sunlight, plus natural and exotic finishes only Janecek’s extremely creative design mind could have conceived.

“He designed every aspect of the house, providing detailed drawings to the remodelers. When they bought the place, it was a den of swinging-’70s clichés. So out went the swan faucets, dark wood, and sponge paint. And in came 30 skylights and a somewhat monochromatic color scheme.

The bulk of the remodel took about nine months and included gutting the house down to the bare frame. The staircase was designed and built on-site. The kitchen, which is now open and airy, was originally three rooms with three hallways, and the master bathroom was once four rooms. “This was the house of doors,” Janecek says. And those doors were too small for such big rooms. So he put in much larger doorways and designed doors with custom hardware. As for decor, it’s a mix of estate-sale finds, Global Views prototypes, custom pieces, and long-held favorites.”

There’s a library, a wine cellar, an upstairs laundry/crafts room, even an air-conditioned work shop off the garage. Janecek and his partner love to entertain, and have had 120 people in the house for parties. That’s why they installed tons of built-ins and created the downstairs laundry room to double as a caterer’s kitchen:

“Though the house is lovely, and every design detail was chosen with precision, the place is meant to be lived in—and partied in. Janecek and his partner entertain frequently, so they made sure the house would be conducive to get-togethers. In addition to a laundry room that doubles as a caterer’s kitchen, Janecek also installed built-ins that he stocked with vintage glassware and dinnerware.”

There is no pool but oodles of room for one, and there is a sport court. If you know Hughes Lane, you know it’s an eyebrow raising address for elegant, substantial people of means north, yes I said north of LBJ, who don’t need to flash an Amex Black card, because they have had one for years.

I know the folks at Inwood mortgage will jump through ten hoops to get you financed on this baby, as long as you invite them to the first party! Asking: $2,250,000. Previously listed last year at $2,390,000.14225-Hughes-back-yard-575x383 14225-Hughes-sport-court-575x383
