Inwood Home of the Week: Waggoner Family Home Has Waggoner Ranch Feel & Custom Christmas Lights!

5842-Waggoner-IHOTW

Update, 12:18 am: Seems I read the map incorrectly: this home is EAST of Preston Rd. when northbound, putting it between the Dallas North Tollway and Preston Road, a highly desireable area. Which only makes the Waggoner house on Waggoner even more desireable!

How appropriate that we post this apres Columbus Day, because the hefty front beams on this beautiful home remind me of a ship!

You cannot find a better location in Preston Hollow (east west of Preston Road, which I call “New Preston Hollow) than Waggoner Drive.

I have always wondered if the street got it’s name from The Waggoner Ranch.

5842-Waggoner

The Waggoner Ranch was established in 1849 by Dan Waggoner, and this historic ranch property has been under the same family ownership ever since. It still boasts the signature backwards “D” brand that has been used continuously since 1849, making it one of the oldest brands in Texas, and at 510,527 acres (and includes a lake) it is clearly the largest ranch in the world! The spread near Vernon, in North Texas, is on the market for $725 million, listed with Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Real Estate.

Here is one way to envision the girth of the Waggoner Ranch size: 800 square miles of Lone Star Real Estate — spanning SIX counties!

GetMedia-2-1024x768 There must be a correlation between the Waggoner ranch and the coveted Dallas street. But 5842 Waggoner Drive in Dallas has a much more manageable lot than it’s twin-named ranch: try .36 acres! The house is 6992 square feet of ranch-like contemporary interiors, complete with stone fireplaces (three, plus an outdoor fireplace on the patio/outdoor kitchen), massive wood beams, hardwoods and trim. I love the hand-scraped hardwoods and the unique criss-cross parquet in the foyer. The plumbing fixtures in the master are oil-rubbed bronze. The great room is enormous, and open to the kitchen that is stocked with the latest in Viking appliances, pot filler, double sinks, a huge granite slab of an island, and beautiful views of that outdoor living area and yard. The bedrooms, all 5, are super-sized and have en suite baths. You get those five bedrooms, with six full and three half baths, yes THREE POWDERS! That’s a total of NINE full baths! I mean, turn the corner in this house, there’s a bathroom. There is also a large panelled study, an upstairs game room, and two utility rooms, one on each floor level. Also, the backyard has an electric gate, mosquito mister systems, security cameras and this I love: custom Christmas lights that come with the house! Asking $1,780,000 and listed with Allie Beth Allman’s Holly Thompson. Home was traded back in June of 2013 for $1,450,000.
