Good Thing Split-Level Homes Are Becoming Popular Again Because This One’s FAB

In the 60s, split-level homes were all the rage. Like a ranch style, but stacked. Today’s buyers are harkening back to this style that’s been called “the minivans of the architectural world” and digging the unique midcentury vibe of split-levels that offer some needed separation that open floor plans lack. This week’s High Caliber Home of the Week presented by Lisa Peters of Caliber Home Loans is an outstanding split-level home in North Oak Cliff listed by Diane and Vinnie Sherman of David Griffin & Company Realtors.

“Timbergrove Circle offers a great mix of ingredients,” says Sherman, who specializes in historic, architecturally-significant homes, and midcentury homes in Oak Cliff. The 1960-built midcentury modern home at 1808 Timbergrove Circle is HUGE with 3,416-square-feet. It’s set on 0.3 acres with three bedrooms, two full baths, and three half-baths. If there are only three bedrooms, where’s all the square footage? In the one, two, three… four living areas. Each one is better than the next.

But first, the kitchen.

The eat-in kitchen features granite countertops, white cabinets, tile backsplash, and stainless steel appliances include a gas cooktop, oven, built-in microwave, dishwasher, and a built-in Miele coffee center.

Ready for the living rooms?

Hang on, let’s look at the master suite first.

Timbergrove-Caliber The updated master suite has dual vanities, glass-tiled shower with multiple body sprays, and a large walk-closet. The bedroom features woodplank floors, recessed lighting, and plenty of natural light.

OK now, on to the living areas.

Living room #1: Bay window beauty

The formal living or dining area to your right as you walk in the home has a beautiful bay window and shady streetscape view of the neighborhood. You can use it for a second (third actually) dining area or create the conversation salon you always wanted.

The casual den toward the back of the house has a gray brick gas log fireplace, beamed ceiling, and subtle painted paneled walls. A perfect, comfortable family room near the kitchen.

Living room #3: MCM entertaining in style

Head downstairs for the third living area, a lower-level lounge with stone tile floors, MCM-inspired wet bar and an adjacent pergola-covered patio.

“Very few homes over here, or in Dallas for that matter, have finished basements,” says Sherman, who notes that this room has a large walk-in closet adjacent to the half bath here, where a shower could be installed to bring the bathroom count to three full baths and two half baths.

That room is begging for a turntable and stack of Earth, Wind and Fire records (a little decade and genre-mixing never hurt anyone).

Living room #4: Soft sunroom shadows

Finally, an enormous sunroom or Florida room with walls of windows and a ceiling of beams lets in beautiful filtered light from the private fenced backyard. The built-in window seats are a perfect touch.

The home has an attached two-car garage, a bonus for a home built at this time. Located in the Stevens Forest Park section of the Kessler Conservation District, around the corner from Stevens Park Golf Course and Twelve Hills Nature Center, it’s zoned for Dallas ISD’s Rosemont Primary and Elementary Schools both a block away.

Diane and Vinnie Sherman of David Griffin & Company Realtors have listed 1808 Timbergrove Circle for $700,000.
