Some of my Millennial friends have been buoyed enough by the recent spate of price reductions to reenter the market. That’s saying something, considering that many of them have already tried at least twice and have turned back to apartment living after months of submitting offer after offer only to lose out to cash buyers.

However, like typical Millennials, they know what they want and are looking to make the fewest compromises possible. And if there’s one thing that has moved to the top of their “must-have” lists after this brutal summer it’s a pool.

However, if you’re shopping for a home in the $500s, it’s going to be rare to find enough square footage and a pool inside the Dallas city limits. However, so many Millennials are falling back in love with the eastern suburbs such as Garland and Mesquite.

In Garland, near the shores of Lake Ray Hubbard, you’ll find the fab little enclave of Emerald Lake. And inside Emerald Lake, you’ll find tons of homes that were built around the same time that Millennials were coming of age. This one, in particular, has four bedrooms, three-and-a-half baths, and 3,486 square feet all on a quarter of an acre.

And in the backyard? Well, that’s what really impresses.

Built in 2009, this red brick two-story has almost all of the original cabinetry and finishes, which shows just how well maintained it is. There are several upgrades, too, including built-in speakers in the living room, wooden shutters, engineered hardwoods on the first floor, a covered rear patio, and did we mention that pool?

Guess what — it has a hot tub, too.

Room to Grow

Now, a lot of Millennials aren’t looking to just buy a home and then flip it a few years later. They’re looking for one to grow in. That’s what you’ll be able to do with this property, which has a first-floor primary suite that is absolutely enormous. There’s room for a home office, and there’s an upstairs game room that’s set up as a media room complete with a projector.

If you’re in love with this fresh listing, don’t tempt fate. While the market is shifting toward a more balanced pace, that doesn’t mean you can rest on your laurels. This home was up on MLS just a day ago, and we don’t anticipate it will stay that way too long.

Melodie Watts with eXp Realty has listed 2450 Chesapeake Drive for $549,900.
