If you live in an apartment in Texas, chances are good that you have access to a fitness center. (PRNewsfoto/Napali Capital, LLC).

You’re working from home in your apartment. You’ve got a hankering for Tex-Mex or chicken-fried steak, and the food delivery apps are calling for your thumb.

You give in — and enjoy a heaping basket of chicken fingers delivered to your door. Whew, you’re full. You need a workout.

Luckily, you live in an apartment in Texas.

A recent RENTCafé study found that rental communities in Texas’ major cities are prepared for fitness-minded renters because they already come with an on-site sports amenity.

The report defines sports amenities as swimming pools, fitness centers, golf courses, and spas. Also included is access to courts to play tennis, basketball, volleyball, and racquetball.

Texas renters have a good chance of having pool access, according to a RENTCafé study

The study determined that Dallas ranks second nationally for the largest number of apartments with on-site access to sports amenities with 233,000. That represents 90 percent of all the city’s apartments in 50-plus communities.

Also, Fort Worth has 95 percent coverage of sports amenities for its apartments, and it ranks 16th nationally with 86,000 units.

It gets even better in the suburbs: All 22,000 apartments in Frisco have access to sports facilities. Plano checks in with 99 percent of residents having access. Lewisville, Carrollton, and McKinney have apartments with 98 percent on-site accessibility to sports amenities. Renters must have zero body fat.

Texas dominates RENTCafé’s study with Houston, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio rankings first through fourth. Houston has 440,000 apartment units, more than Dallas and Austin combined.

In RENTCafé’s methodology, the nationwide apartment search website crunched the numbers using Yardi Matrix data across 170 markets and nearly 4,000 cities in the U.S.

So, as you’re wiping up the barbecue sauce with the last of the chicken fingers, you should be thinking of working off the meal. According to RENTCafé, most Texas renters have a fitness amenity close by.
