Finding This North Dallas Contemporary Was Kismet for Karen Luter and Sabra Girard

It was the last house that Allie Beth Allman Realtor Karen Luter was going to show to Sabra Girard and her husband, but iced-over roads threatened to cut their showing short. It was sleeting outside, and getting home would soon mean a dicey drive. Add the complication of having two children in tow and you have the makings of a disaster.

But, as it turns out, the showing of 6634 Greenwich was anything but.

“The moment we arrived at Greenwich and stepped inside, I turned around to them and announced ‘We have to buy this house!'” Luter said. “I say ‘we’ because the Girards are like family members, the way all my clients become family members. I tell my client that I pretend they are my children and that I always want to help them make the best buying and selling decisions.”

And it was a great decision, Sabra said, as the home became a soft spot to land after a hard day, a place where great memories were made both inside the 1960s contemporary confines and outside.

But times change, families grow, and the Girards soon found themselves busting at the seams of this lovely ranch in the Gayle Malone subdivision of North Dallas. The decision to sell was a tough one, Sabra said, but working with Luter has made it much easier.

Built in 1969, 6634 Greenwich is a chef’s tasting menu of design trends for the era. It has a Mad Men-era corporate executive vibe, with brick floors, exposed beams, vaulted ceilings, sunken living room, and floor-to-ceiling windows. There are four bedrooms, three full baths, and more than 3,000 square feet inside listed for $699,000, or $233 per square foot.

“We were so fortunate to find a home owned by the original owner, a bank president, in original condition,” Luter said. “In addition to its modern architecture and unique Hollywood-style pool and terraced backyard, the location is the best.” The neighborhood features wide, tree-lined streets with oversized lots situated just north of Forest Lane and west of Hillcrest and has a very private feel.

“When I first  walked around the majestic fireplace that sits at the home’s entry, I had to stop for a second to take in the unexpected view,” Sabra said. “A terraced backyard, a glistening pool and surrounding greenery, all framed by a wall of windows, had me a bit stunned.”

The Girards brought some of their own style into the home, adding the modern double glass doors in the front that make the home looks like a jewel box from the street, giving guests a distinctive view of a treasured piece of art.

“Throughout the house are features like brick floors that were built to endure trends and time,” Sabra said. “And speaking of time — some our best were having family and friends over to relax  by the fire and to swim.  The house and land truly accommodated all the seasons and embraced the many moods of a growing family seeking special moments and longstanding memories.  We feel lucky to have called this house our home.”

And if you’re lucky, you can capture that same feeling, too.
