A front staircase built of glass. Heated Porcelanosa floors throughout. A culinary center kitchen that could double as a Capital Distributing showroom. Master closet as big as a NorthPark store, master suite with its own separate two-car garage space plus stalling for four to six more vehicles. A potential dance studio on the property, a pool water environment, and walls of glass that can be made private with programmed window shades at the touch of a button.

Yes, 10106 Inwood Road has held our attention for quite some time.

We took note over the holidays that Dr. Douglas Won, of the Forest Park Medical Center insurance kickback saga, both changed agents and lowered the price of his exquisite Inwood Road glass box estate custom built by Simmie Cooper. This is a rare Dallas jewel. If you haven’t seen this house, get ready for what design fastidiousness and style can create. This is one for the look books!

The 12,510-square-foot home started with an asking price of $9.5 million when listed with Y+A Real Estate & Asset Management last February 29. I was actually supposed to see the home, then COVID hit and we all quarantined. The selling price trickled down to $9.25 million, then dipped to $8.9 million, and then lower. Roxann Taylor of Engel & Voelkers Dallas Park now has it listed for a mere $7.85 million.

“This is a one-owner home designed, built, and meticulously executed, using the highest quality of quality finishes, ” says Taylor.

The home is so vast, she was able to throw a 100-person party in early November and remain 100 percent COVID-compliant.

“From the glass stairs to the walls of glass, you walk around the house and your mouth just drops open with every step,” Taylor said. “It doesn’t have normal high-end appliances, it has a catering kitchen. Everything is a carefully culled, over-the-top addition, and it’s all beautiful.”

This estate was at 10106 Inwood Road was built on a sprawling, wooded, two-acre property, and we all watched it go up back in 2011. We were disappointed, however, when the 8-ish-foot-high cut stone wall was built. Understandable given the busy-ness of Inwood, but disappointed.

This is a Contemporary that I will capitalize, because the home exudes incredible haute contemporary design and will be soon be a Dallas contemporary landmark. I have no doubt that Mark Lamster will see this post and clear his throat loudly: this work of art at 10106 Inwood was designed by Cooper and the Wons.

The home is, of course, a two-story glass box with full spectrum view of the incredible, vast manicured grounds spared, thank God, by the Oct. 2019 tornado.

(Some of the neighbors were not as fortunate.)

Dr. Won bought the lot in 2010 for $1.5 million, which was record-breaking then for a two-acre spread, then hired Simmie Cooper to build his contemporary dream. In researching our archives, I did write about the estate while it was under construction. Cooper, who we love, also built Sean Marion’s place over at 4512 Isabella, and there were so many similarities. In 2011, this is what I wrote:

I’m dying to get inside this new one and can hardly wait to see what Simmie et al cooks up. It’s a custom build for the owner, a young Korean physician who heads up a minimally invasive surgery center and is probably a member of the Lucky Sperm Club. I guarantee you he does not take Medicaid!

Get inside that steel front gate, and this home is brimming with amazement. We mentioned heated floors across the first floor. You take your shoes off at the front door, says Roxann Taylor, and just glide across the toasty floors.

The background is neutrals and glass, but there are also splashes of color. Example: the mosaic-tiled pool and spa, with beach-entry water lounging surrounding the spa. The owner’s suite has a library vestibule, quite honestly a physician’s dream for a place to work during on-call nights.

Closets will set new records: the master closet is larger than most stores. All the marble is exotic, stunning, and hand-selected. The bathrooms tapped 10 stone quarries at least and wall veneers are bookended. The main living area includes multiple conversation spaces, dining, den, wine room off the dining, media room, chef-designed culinary center (kitchen), elevator, designer nanny quarters, six-car garage with port cochere space for two more cars, and one, two, three laundry rooms. There is also a dance or artists’ studio. The home has a total of seven bedrooms, six fireplaces, seven full and four half baths. Go wash your hands!

Though the home fronts on Inwood Road just north of Walnut Hill in the Honeypot of Preston Hollow, the landscaping and terrain make it extremely private. Main living areas open to the outdoor world behind the home with large folding glass doors. I love that the entire lot has not been swallowed. You can do a tennis or sport court, even a large putting green. It’s a total contemporary oasis the moment that steel gate slides open and shuts behind you.

Now priced at $7.85 million, and we have no doubt a migrating Californian will sweep up this home, fill it with Mason Valentina or Kelly Wearstler, and offer it up for every social scuttle on the calendar. In fact, a couple from Santa Barbara was looking at it right after New Years …
